About the Role
We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Senior Research Fellow to join the Space Technology and Industry Institute at Swinburne and play a pivotal role as we seek to further invest in our emerging, core program of Space Materials, Coatings and Manufacturing to tackle challenges at the forefront of human understanding and imagination.

Working with industry partners, you will develop and undertake applied research programs, including in areas of additive manufacturing, the use of advanced lightweight materials and surface coatings in applications for space and other applied fields. A particular focus will be on developing the process and equipment within the Institute to qualify such capabilities for space, including supporting our industry partners on that journey.

In this role, you will join a high-performing team with a strong collaborative tendency as we adopt a seamless offering of internal excellence for industry partners, supporting each other and the broader Swinburne research environment. You will be expected to participate in activities that foster and build further on existing links with government, business, communities and professions in Australia and internationally.

This position will foster a strong research culture that includes international collaboration, competitive grants and high-quality publications.

About You
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:
* Experience in material science, additive manufacturing, materials testing, including substantial knowledge in areas relevant to the research project to be undertaken.
* Ability to independently conduct major experiments and research programs and/or in setting up complex or unusual equipment for a range of experiments and an understanding of the relevant testing standards.
* Demonstrated experience with the use of equipment and ability to prepare reports of technical nature and develop new test protocols to criteria and specified by customer.
* Demonstrated commitment to research in the university context, a capacity in the use of a variety of research methods and a track record of publishing quality academic journals.
* Demonstrated industry or consulting experience including established links with relevant industries and organisations is preferred.

Qualifications
An earned doctoral qualification in physics, materials engineering, or a related discipline.
Membership of an appropriate professional body is preferred.
