SugarlinkZ Pty Ltd is a family owned Sugarcane Farming enterprise located in Brandon QLD in the Burdekin Shire.
We are seeking an Agri Technician for a full-time role.
The Agri Technician will be responsible for providing technical support for the cropping activities and will be required to work closely with the Farm Managers/Owners and Agronomists to achieve optimal farming outcomes.
Specific tasks and responsibilities:
· Soil Analysis and Preparation:
o Conduct soil tests to assess soil quality and nutrient levels.
o Determine the need for soil amendments and make recommendations.
o Prepare the soil by plowing, tilling, and adding necessary amendments to create an optimal planting environment.
· Planting and Crop Establishment:
o Establishing crops including bed preparation, fertilizing, sowing and cultivation
o Coordinate and oversee the planting of sugar cane crops, ensuring proper spacing and depth.
o Ensure timely planting according to the farm's schedule.
o Monitor seed quality and make recommendations for seed treatments if needed.
· Irrigation Management:
o Irrigation of crops, monitoring and maintaining irrigation system, including pump operation, scheduling watering
o Troubleshoot and repair irrigation equipment as necessary.
· Crop Maintenance:
o Monitor crop health and identify pests, diseases, and nutrient deficiencies.
o Implement pest and disease control strategies, including the application of pesticides or integrated pest management techniques.
o Apply fertilizers and nutrients as needed to support crop growth.
o Ensure proper weed control through various methods, such as herbicide application or manual removal.
o Operating tractors and other farm equipment relevant to the everyday running of a sugarcane farm
· Harvest Planning and Execution:
o Collaborate with farm management to plan the timing and logistics of the sugar cane harvest.
o Oversee the harvesting process, ensuring that it is carried out efficiently and with minimal losses.
· Equipment and Machinery Maintenance:
o General farm and property maintenance and involvement in any on-farm improvements.
o Maintain and repair farm equipment, including tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems.
o Conduct routine inspections to prevent equipment breakdowns and ensure safety.
o Data Collection and Record Keeping:
· Maintain accurate records of planting, irrigation, pest control, and fertilization activities.
o Collect data on crop yields, soil conditions, and other relevant metrics to assess and improve farm performance.
· Compliance and Safety:
o Adhere to safety protocols and regulations to ensure the well-being of farm workers and compliance with environmental laws.
o Stay informed about the latest agricultural practices, technologies, and regulations relevant to sugar cane farming.
Experience requirements:
- At least 3 years of experience
