The Opportunity
Come and discover the opportunity to join our Manufacturing team at our Port Kembla site as an Operations Manager. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
Due to internal promotions, we currently have two Operations Manager vacancies available: one in Coke Plant 1 and one in Refractory Services (Slabmaking).
The Cokemaking process is an integral part of our manufacturing operations and is one of the first steps in creating iron and steel. The team is multi-skilled and responsible for maintaining battery equipment and refractory assets that are critical to the process in order to ensure the continuous reliability of these assets.
The Refractory Services team provides a broad range of integrated services including the development, sourcing, installation and delivery of the best refractory solutions for our operations. The team is essential in ensuring the security, reliability and availability of the operational refractory lined units.
As an Operations Manager you will be essential to ensuring the safety and reliability of our production in order to deliver world-class products and solutions for our customers now, and into the future. What Will You Do?
You will:
- lead and manage the development and delivery of business plan objectives: continually improve the team’s efficiency and effectiveness, including the adoption of new technologies and best practices
- set objectives and operating standards: establish and communicate clear strategic and operational objectives and standards
- support a zero harm culture: using felt leadership, identification and rectification of key hazards and risks, and achievement of safety targets
- foster a high-performing team that is focused on inclusion, quality and continuous improvement
- focus on talent development and succession: identify current and future capability needs, ensuring the skills of team members are developed and aligned with these needs
- provide expert support: provide technical support and stewardship of cokemaking or refractory operations
More About You
As an effective leader of people with significant manufacturing knowledge, you’ll demonstrate a future focus and growth mindset. You will also bring:
- tertiary qualifications in engineering or metallurgy, and/or significant experience in manufacturing
- a commitment to your own safety and wellbeing and care for others
- an ability to translate business objectives to clear actions and outcomes for your team
- a demonstrated ability to lead, coach and develop others to enhance capability
- the ability to prioritise work and resolve problems effectively and efficiently
