Provides daily leadership, supervision and support to city laws officers while fostering a high performance and positive team culture.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Coach regulatory officers to learn and grow enabling them to stay safe and provide a high standard of ethical, equitable and effective regulatory and educational services to the community. 
  • Ensure all works are carried out with proper regard for safety of Council staff and the public in keeping with Occupational Health and Safety Legislation requirements.
  • Assist the Coordinator City Laws in the management, and delivery of the City Laws area of responsibility which includes management of Council's Local Law No.1, animal management, illegal dumping, abandoned vehicles, parking and school crossing.
  • Lead and assist in the delivery of complex and/or sensitive investigations and compliance matters.
  • Monitor investigations, enforcement processes and actions to ensure they are undertaken in a manner that upholds high standards of ethics, integrity and statutory compliance.
  • Review evidence, reports, statements and relevant materials for briefs of evidence prepared by local laws officers and ensure they are of high quality, providing guidance where needed and produce when required.
  • Provided reports and updates on Councillor Requests, resourcing issues and other regulatory service delivery matters.
  • Assist the coordinator City Laws to develop, deliver and evaluate programs that build community education and awareness to foster voluntary compliance whilst representing a professional and positive image of the team and services within Council and the wider community.
  •  build the communities awareness and understanding of local laws, relevant acts and their requirements to assist them in meeting their responsibilities.

The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:

  • Proficiency in developing and implementing service policies and procedures tailored to meet the unique needs of the organisation.
  • Proficient in handling complaints and escalations in a timely and effective manner and resolving complex issues within the organisational framework, striving to achieve satisfactory resolutions
  • Strong understanding of service delivery skills, including effective communication, active listening, empathy, and conflict resolution, within the relevant context.
  • In-depth knowledge of local laws, other relevant legislation and associated procedures pertaining to enforcement action - including infringement issuing and prosecution proceedings. 
  • Demonstrated skills in handling difficult customer situations and resolving conflicts, maintaining professionalism, and adhering to the organisation's guidelines.
  • Strong relationship-building abilities, fostering collaboration, cooperation, and partnership with colleagues, other departments of the organisation, and community memebers.

Required Certifications & Qualifications:

  • Degree or diploma in a regulatory or enforcement-based and/or leadership field.
  • Substantial experience in Regulatory and Team Leadership roles, preferably within a similar industry or sector.
  • Current working with children's check
  • Current driver's licence
