Salary: $130,000 plus 11% superannuation

Our client The Ramps Ridge Services Pty Ltd conducts farming business, sheep, beef and other seasonal agriculture production and covers approximately 3547 ha predominantly dedicated to cotton. The client is nationally accredited from the National Feedlot Assurance quality system and approved for all major markets in the world.

The client is currently seeking a passionate and experienced Beef Cattle Farmer to join its team and contribute to the success of the farming operations. As a Beef Cattle Farmer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management and care of beef cattle herd. Your expertise will ensure the health, productivity, and well-being of livestock, contributing to the overall efficiency and success of the farming business.

You will also have the responsibility to direct and oversee general farming activities, maintain cattle feeding plans, maintain paddock fencing and water supply systems, organize the sale, purchase, and transportation of livestock and produce, and maintain and evaluate records of farming activities and regulatory compliance.

It will be important for you to monitor market activity and trends in beef prices, feed costs, and consumer demand to plan accordingly. Managing relationships with buyers and slaughterhouses will also be a part of your role.

Excellent organisational and leadership skills along with fiscal management knowledge are crucial for success in this role. Strong problem solving and decision-making abilities, as well as the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively, are also essential.

Qualification and Experience:
• Relevant bachelor degree
• Additional qualifications in animal science, agriculture, or a related field are highly desirable
• Minimum 2 years regenerative farming experience
• Minimum 2 years’ experience of managing a beef cattle operation
• Experience with large-scale beef cattle operations.
• Knowledge of sustainable farming practices and environmental stewardship

Your main responsibilities will be:
• Organise and conduct farming operations such as mustering, involving locating and collecting animals, often from vast paddocks or open areas.
• Catching for health checks, to administer vaccinations, and to provide medical treatment to prevent disease and injury, for transportation, or other management purposes.
• Drenching to administer oral medication to livestock to help prevent or treat internal parasites and ensures the animals’ well-being.
• Breeding and raising livestock to contribute to the farm’s sustainability and profitability by producing healthier, more productive livestock.
• Assisting with calving and artificial insemination.
• Sterilising machinery used to collect, grade and package produce.
• Direct and oversee general farming activities such as maintaining pens, sheds and cages and controlling pests.
• Maintain Cattle Feeding Plans, including growing and harvesting fodder, fertilising and weed management, to ensure the feed supply and health and nutrition of cattle.
• Maintain paddock fencing, equipment, and water supply systems to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
• Organise the sale, purchase and transportation of livestock and produce.
• Ensure compliance with biosecurity and animal welfare regulations.
• Collaborate with veterinarians, nutritionists, and other professionals to ensure optimal herd health.
• Manage the maintenance and repair of fences, water systems, and other infrastructure.
• Implement and monitor feeding programs, including the use of supplements and minerals.
• Maintain and evaluate records of farming activities, and regulatory compliance to ensure accurate management and legal adherence.
• Monitor market activity by examining trends in beef prices, feed costs and consumer demand and plan accordingly.
• Manage relationships with buyers and slaughterhouses.

In order to be considered for this role, you must have:
• Strong knowledge of beef cattle husbandry, breeding, and health management.
• Proven experience in breeding and raising livestock for meat production, including low stress stock handling techniques.
• Familiarity with pasture management and forage production.
• Proficiency in operating and maintaining farm machinery and equipment.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and working in various weather conditions.
