McHugh Steel is a Roll Forming Company who specializes in the design and building of Sheds, Steel Framing & Roofing for the building industry. Based in Bundaberg, we are seeking a Civil Engineering Draftsperson to join our team.
About the Role
• This role would be ideally suited to someone who can assist in civil engineering research, design, construction, operations and maintenance.
• This role is a full-time position.
• We are seeking someone with experience in the building industry who has extensive knowledge of house frames, trusses and common
building codes and practices – enabling them to quote/draw plans.
• The candidate is required to have excellent computer skills – email correspondence, drafting quotes in word and PDF, experience with
drawing in AppliCAD or AutoCAD (or similar program).
Responsibilities:
• Detailing of House Roofs & Commercial Projects in AppliCad Software.
• Creating accurate CAD drawings from hand sketches, engineered plans, verbal instructions, and site visits.
• Seamlessly integrating and working with management, builders, project managers design consultants, and sub-contractors, to produce and
alter drawings.
• Thinking creatively and critically to support the project/sales team in the design process, to create accurate steel framing constructions.
• Creating and continually updating project drawings lists.
• Printing various formats of drawing sets for project managers and site managers.
• Systematically saving sketches and drawings on our CAD server; keeping the server organized; updating project folders and files as jobs
progress and revisions are made.
• Exhaustively reviewing and checking sketches and drawings for errors, before being sent to architects, subcontractors, project managers,
etc.
• Seeking clarity and understanding from engineers and project managers when you are not 100% certain of something.
• Organizing and uploading drawings to web-based storage sites/collaboration project sites to share drawings with project and
subcontractors.
• Create, edit, and update standard details for use in projects.
Skills / Abilities
• Must hold a qualification in Civil Engineering
• Further studies to advance skills are an advantage
• extensive knowledge of house frames, trusses
• knowledge of common Australian Building Codes and practices
• ability to read house/building plans
• excellent computer skills
• experience drawing in AppliCAD (or similar programs)
• excellent self-organisation skills
• excellent communication ability
• initiative to improve our business processes
