The Role and responsibilities
This position will support the Competition, Consumer + Market Regulation practice group in all business development and marketing efforts to win business; proactively monitor industry and client opportunities, coaching partners to pitch for business in a client-focused way; and to develop and implement practice group BD and marketing plans to achieve revenue and market share objectives.
Within the practice groups, the role will be responsible for all facets of business development and marketing, including:
• Use best practice strategy to support G+T to deliver revenue growth and build stronger, more enduring and sustainable client relationships
• Lead the implementation of Practice Group strategy and initiatives which facilitate revenue growth, including:
o assisting to drive the implementation of the business plans including pursuing growth opportunities
o implementing business development initiatives, including new client initiatives and integrated campaigns
o helping to identify publishing, media and speaking opportunities, and providing partners and lawyers with support in pursuing these opportunities
o working with relevant industry bodies to maximise client engagement opportunities
• Play a client relationship management role with certain strategic clients, including coaching on and advocating the client relationship management tools available
• Conduct client feedback (relationship, matter and tender feedback) to continually improve our service offering and to gain further insights into the client’s business.
• Project manage or contribute to tenders relevant to the practice group and sectors, and contribute to other firm-wide tenders being managed by BDs across the firm
• Coach lawyers and EAs in contribution to the tender process
• Prepare directory submissions and help to prepare partners for ranking survey interviews
• Assist with the collection of capability information for the group (for inclusion in tenders and pitches etc)
• Work with the Legal, Knowledge and Marketing teams to develop and deliver marketing campaigns that support the growth of the practice group
• Project manage the preparation of business development collateral including content contribution
• Maintain responsibility for BD infrastructure to support lawyers and secretaries in BD initiatives
• In conjunction with the Events Team, plan, execute and convert event attendance and client interaction into new business leads with fee earning colleagues
• In conjunction with the Comms Team, prepare award submission and coach lawyers through best practice submission processes
• In conjunction with Marketing identify content and insight publication opportunities, publishing content that is used to assist in identifying BD opportunities with key Buyers & Influencers across strategic clients and target relationships

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have the following experience:
• Prior business development experience with at least 4 years in a corporate or professional services environment as a Business Development Manager;
• Experience in developing practice plans and client plans for revenue maximisation or growth strategies;
• Experience with B2B and industry analysis;
• An understanding of the role that data plays in identifying opportunities and winning new clients is advantageous;
• A good understanding of business development – including strategic position and key message development;
• An understanding of the interrelation of BD and marketing within the legal industry;
• Good understanding of client management (of both internal and external stakeholders)
• Understanding of communication tools – campaigns, thought leadership, media, events and sponsorship;
• Prior experience of business planning; and
• An ability to think strategically and add value on business development in discussion with partners.
