The Staff Specialist (Psychiatrist - Psychogeriatrics and Consultation Liaison) will:
- Provide high quality clinical and non-clinical services to benefit the patients of the Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS). This includes research as well as teaching the health professionals of the future.
- Position is available for specialist psychiatrist in the field of:
- Psychogeriatrics
- Consultation Liaison.
- The Gerontology Department currently provides a range of services that includes Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE), Delirium unit, Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM), Orthogeriatric Liaison, Community Geriatrics, and a range of Specialist Outpatient Clinics.
- With increasing number of inpatients with challenging behaviours due to Major Neuropsychological disorders, the successful applicant will support the management of inpatients with Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD) and other comorbid psychiatric disorders, both within the inpatient unit (both open and secure areas) of Gerontology department and in other medical wards of the hospital.
- The successful applicant will also have opportunity to work with the existing Older Person Mental Health community team and Frailty Interventional Team to streamline the care of patients in the community and RACF respectively.

- Comprising salary range of $7827.20 - $9924.00 p.f. (L18-L27)

Requirements:
- Proof of qualification - Psychiatry, recognised by the Royal Australian & New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, and current registration with/or eligibility for registration as a Specialist with the Medical Board of Australia. In addition, either a certificate in Old Age Psychiatry or be an accredited member of the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age of RANZCP is desirable.
- Possession of class C drivers' licence.
- (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
- Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
- All employees of the Mental Health Service Group may be required to work in other areas of the service.
