• This exciting role will rely on your highly experienced nursing skills to rotate across surgical, medical and reception shifts.
• A good understanding of systems such as RX works will be an advantage.
Requirements:
• A Bachelor of Veterinary Technology (or recognised Australian equivalent).
• Must have previous surgical nursing, emergency and critical care experience with companion animals.
• Confidence in monitoring anaesthesia.
• Excellent animal handling and triaging skills.
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
• Excellent multitasking skills and ability to complete set tasks within the specified deadline.
• Positive, flexible and adaptable.
• Lead nurse and or management experience essential.
• Ability to work alone in a single Vet Clinic.
• Ability to work across different roles within the clinic, essential due to the small team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work well with people of all different backgrounds.
• The ability to work autonomously.
• Inventory Control experience.
• Ability to manage scheduling staff rosters.
• A personality that allows you to see "the bigger picture" at all times.
• A passion for improving the lives of animals and a commitment to best practice customer service and animal care standards.
Responsibilities
• The Qualified Nurse is responsible for the undertaking of these responsibilities under MINIMAL supervision and should be able to delegate, manage and monitor key tasks. This will also include training and supporting all nursing staff as required.
• Ensure relevant samples are collected and placed in the correct and appropriately labelled
containers.
• Conduct haematological, blood and other specific laboratory tests as required and ensures results are recorded accurately and communicated to client, veterinarians and veterinary nurses.
• Undertake daily treatments, routines and nursing care of patients as directed &/or as advised by duty veterinarian.
• Maintain a high level of hygiene in kennel/cattery and stable areas, taking into account isolation procedures and appropriate disinfection usage.
• Ensure safety procedures are followed according to occupational health and safety legislation by utilising the provided radiation monitors, aprons, gloves and thyroid shields.
• Prepare equipment and instruments for specific procedures such as Ultrasound, endoscopy and catheterisation as per policy and procedures/as directed.
