SUMMARY OF POSITION AND OBJECTIVES:
The Professional Services Manager - Microbiology plays a crucial role in leading Eurofins engagement with client organizations, ensuring the delivery of exceptional technical services within the microbiology sector. This position involves managing client relationships, providing technical oversight, and acting as a subject matter expert to ensure service excellence. Key responsibilities include organizing and leading monthly meetings with direct reports, client managers, and Eurofins department leaders to align service delivery with client expectations, disseminating key communications, and maintaining financial oversight as defined by departmental leadership. The role requires a proactive approach to planning, multitasking, and maximizing productivity to meet all quality and service metrics, fostering strong teamwork and collaboration both within Eurofins and with client organizations
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES:
Leadership Responsibilities:
? Manage the day-to-day operations of the microbiological services department, including sample collection, testing, and reporting.
? Ensure that all services are delivered accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with relevant regulations and quality standards.
? Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline service delivery processes and improve efficiency.
? Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and providing technical support as needed.
? Collaborate with clients to understand their microbiological testing needs and develop customized service plans to meet their requirements.
? Build and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction and loyalty.
? Recruit, train, and supervise a team of microbiology technicians, ensuring that they have the necessary skills, resources, and support to perform their duties effectively.
? Provide ongoing coaching and feedback to team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
? Manage staff schedules, workload distribution, and performance evaluations.
? Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of microbiological testing results.
? Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with internal procedures, regulatory requirements, and industry standards.
? Take corrective actions as needed to address deviations or non-conformities identified during quality assurance activities.
? Design and execute experiments to investigate microbial growth, metabolism, and interactions.
? Oversee accurate records of experimental procedures, results, and observations in compliance with regulatory standards.
? Stay abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and regulations in the field of microbiology and incorporate relevant findings into project planning and execution.
? Contribute to the development and validation of microbiological methods, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
? Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory efficiency, productivity, and safety.
Functional Responsibilities
? Designing and conducting experiments, making observations and measurements, researching information, analysing data, preparing or supervising the preparation of laboratory reports and scientific papers, presenting findings at scientific meetings and conferences, and supervising the work of staff.
? Studying the forms and structures of bodily organs and tissues by systematic observation, dissection and microscopic examination.
? Investigating the chemical structure and function of living cells and their isolated components, organs and tissues in humans, animals, plants, and micro-organisms.
? Examining micro-organisms, such as bacteria, fungi, yeast, and their enzymes, and using the knowledge gained to create and develop new, and improve existing, products, materials and processes.
? Investigating the effects of environmental factors, such as rainfall, temperature, sunlight, soil, topography and disease, on plant growth.
? Planning and undertaking experiments to study, measure and understand marine animals and plants.
? Studying the growth and characteristics of micro-organisms, such as bacteria, algae and fungi, and the effects they have on plants, animals and humans to develop medical, veterinary, industrial, environmental and other practical applications.
? Investigating the interrelationships between animals in their natural surroundings, in captivity and in laboratories.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
? Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in Science, with a major in microbiology or a closely related degree concentration. Additional education in Business Management is preferred, highlighting the importance of both scientific expertise and business acumen.
? Experience: At least 7 years of hands-on experience in related fields is required. This experience should not only demonstrate technical proficiency but also leadership within scientific settings, such as laboratories or manufacturing facilities.
? Scientific and Laboratory Expertise: A solid scientific background with hands-on laboratory experience is crucial. This ensures the candidate is familiar with the practical and technical aspects of microbiology and related disciplines.
? Business Operations Understanding: A good understanding of day-to-day business operations is necessary. This includes familiarity with financial, operational, and administrative aspects of managing a department or team within a larger organization.
? Client Service Orientation: Strong client service skills are required, including the ability to work effectively in teamwork and collaboration settings. This highlights the role’s focus on maintaining excellent client relationships and delivering high-quality service.
? Communication and Organizational Skills: Excellent communication (oral and written) and attention to detail are paramount. Strong computer, scientific, and organizational skills are also essential, enabling effective management, reporting, and analysis.
? Travel: The ability to travel as needed is a requirement. This flexibility ensures the manage can effectively engage with client organizations, participate in meetings, and oversee operations across different locations.
