We are looking for a Playgroup Support Officer who will oversee establishing and maintaining community playgroups within Hume City Council (HCC).
This rewarding opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and innovative person to work as part of the HCC Playgroup team.
What you’ll be doing:
- To initiate, establish and maintain community playgroups within Hume City Council (HCC) to address local community needs.
- To act as a key contact to community members and local providers to access a range of information about playgroups and other early years programs and events.
- Support the establishment of community playgroups with a focus on early childhood development.
- Respect, respond to, and promote the flexibility of playgroups responsive to individual group, family, and child needs.
- Actively engage relevant stakeholders to promote the importance of Playgroups and to establish connection between various early years services.
- Support parents and families to find and access a playgroup that meet the individual needs of the family.
- Maintain accurate records of support given to community groups and individual families to support engagement.
- Create and maintain Memorandum of Understandings (MOU’s) between community playgroups, the PSO role and facilities where playgroups are held that clearly outline the rights and responsibilities of each partner.
- Develop and actively promote a collaborative network with community-based playgroup facilitators and other support services for the purpose of identifying and delivering professional development opportunities.
- To support activities related to the wider Inclusion and Service Planning team by participating in Best Start, Central Registration, PSFO and Playgroup initiatives.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- Knowledge of and expertise in issues related to the needs of families and young children.
- Demonstrated ability in working with families in a community setting, specifically children 0-6 years.
- Understanding of the function of the position including relevant policies, regulations and precedents including Child Safe Standards.
- Knowledge of and expertise in working with CALD communities.
- Ability to identify family needs and expectations and respond accordingly.
- Demonstrated ability to develop collaborative relationships and partnerships with community and key stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively and gain co-operation, both verbally and in written form with team members and key stakeholders and with families from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
- Relevant experience in working with families and young children and facilitating parenting programs.
- Experience in organising and leading children's events and activities will be well regarded.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Appropriate tertiary qualifications in social science, early childhood services or social work.
- Current driver’s licence.
