The Role

As part of our ongoing growth, we are expanding our product team and looking for an experienced QA Engineer to join our Melbourne office. We are looking for a great communicator and collaborator with experience working in Agile teams to deliver world-class digital products for our sporting clients.

You will be client facing and work as part of a cross functional team including designers, product managers, technologists and business analysts. The types of projects are varied, from websites and apps to marketing and data-focused products.

This role is ideal for a hands-on tester who has a broad functional and technical testing background. The projects and types of products we deliver for our clients is varied. We are commonly delivering websites, mobile applications and digital marketing products supported by underlying technology including CMS, CRM, Data Warehouses, CDP, Identity tools and a range of digital marketing tools.

Day-to-day, you will work with product manager and development team members to understand the product outcomes we are seeking to deliver. Then you will use your experience to design and execute test cases for the various web applications and APIs being developed. You will be testing functionality during sprints to ensure that everything is working as expected and provide valuable feedback to developers. You will test environments post-deployment to verify that the deployment has been a success.

You will be responsible for both manual and test automation activities, ensuring the quality of the software products. As a tester you will be responsible for functional, API, accessibility, multi-lingual, security, regression, performance, and system testing covering responsiveness of the application across various breakpoints.

It is becoming more and more common for our clients to aim for certain accessibility targets when building customer-facing products, so knowledge of WCAG standards and experience using accessibility testing tools (like Wave and Axe tools) is valuable.

This role requires an individual who brings energy, pragmatism and critical thinking to our clients, and you will also need to have a relentless focus on where client and customer value is. The role is hybrid remote, with two days per week in our office (located in Melbourne Central Tower) or at client offices desirable.

Key Responsibilities:  

• Design and execute test cases for web applications and APIs. Producing test plans and reports as required.

• Working as part of a cross functional Agile team in the delivery of digital products.

About the Role

What you’ll be doing: Relectrify is launching an innovative new battery energy storage system for the Australian market. Built on its CellSwitch® platform, the Relectrify AC1 delivers ‘More Energy’ to asset owners, dramatically improving BESS revenue and project investment returns. The AC1 will primarily be sold and deployed in C&I applications, but it will also be deployed in distribution-level front-of-meter applications. This role provides technical engineering support for the AC1 to both partners and customers. This includes: 

1. Providing application engineering support that helps prospective customers evaluate projects using the AC1, in the process addressing technical questions and selling them on the AC1’s engineering advantages. 
2. Post-sale, to provide project engineering support to the EPC responsible for project delivery, managing all project items within Relectrify’s scope of responsibility.

You will work alongside internal teams to become an expert on our technology and its applications. You will use that expertise to inform customer project design and ensure delivery within our scope to battery energy storage project developers, large business energy users, EPC firms and energy consultants.

Over time, you will drive smarter, faster, more effective delivery of technical solutions to customers, including improving tools, documentation and processes for more effective customer and partner engagement.  

Must-have experience: 

Applicants must have full working rights in Australia and be willing to undergo pre-employment background checks (i.e. working rights, criminal history, and employment references). 

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering or a related field
• Extensive experience in customer applications for battery storage, including related technologies such as renewable generation and EMS integration
• Experience in the deployment of battery storage projects in C&I, distribution-level and front-of-meter applications
• Extensive experience in interfacing and supporting EPCs in developing, planning and constructing stationary battery storage or PV systems
• Demonstrated experience delivering technical customer projects on time and within budget  
• Demonstrated professionalism with interactions at all levels of collaborating organisations  
• Demonstrated experience in expertly managing the expectations of internal and external project stakeholders
• Prior experience contributing to the development or improvement of technical documentation such as application notes, installation guides, and user manuals.

Nice-to-have experience: 

• Familiarity with power electronics, electrical packaging, and printed circuit design
• Experience working in a small team where resourcefulness was paramount, e.g. start-up or scale-up businesses, or in a satellite office of an overseas organisation

As a Senior Software Test Engineer, you will collaborate with a cross-functional team of software engineers to implement automated solutions that proactively identify potential issues early in the development process. You’ll take ownership of designing, developing, and continuously enhancing test infrastructure and frameworks, ensuring your team has the right tools to deliver high-quality products to our users.

You will take a proactive approach to ensuring overall product quality within your functional domain, lead the testing community by developing standards, mentoring software test engineers, and promoting best practices. You’ll be responsible for tackling complex and critical testing scenarios, troubleshooting and resolving intricate issues to ensure seamless software delivery.

You’ll design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for web applications (including cross-browser compatibility), API, and backend systems to ensure high-quality and reliable software releases. Conducting API testing using tools such as Postman, Insomnia, or K6, you’ll validate both the functional and performance aspects of services. Your role will also involve collaborating with product managers, designers, and other colleagues to enhance product design, testability, and implementation strategies.

You will work closely with development teams to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient and streamlined workflows. Your participation in code reviews will help drive continuous improvements in test automation quality, while you’ll also analyse test results, report bugs, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve issues quickly and effectively.

Additionally, you will identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness. You may also be involved in recruitment processes, including conducting technical assessments when needed.

Your expertise and leadership will play a key role in shaping Civica’s approach to quality, ensuring that our testing standards drive excellent customer outcomes and the delivery of reliable, user-focused software.

What you will need to be successful in this role

• Experience in test automation, specialising in developing and maintaining reliable and scalable automated test frameworks
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript
• Solid understanding of API architectures, including REST and gRPC, with expertise in testing and validating API requests and responses
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and integrating automated tests with CI/CD tools
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS or Azure
• Experience with Agile development methodologies
• Proficiency in .NET (C#) is preferred
• Knowledge of containerisation tools (e.g. Docker) and orchestration frameworks (e.g., Kubernetes)
