The Role The Peanut Company of Australia (PCA) processes and markets high quality peanut products and is Australia’s leading supplier of peanuts to domestic and overseas customers. Established in Queensland in 1924 originally as the Peanut Marketing Board, PCA have pioneered the industry, setting international benchmarks in quality, production, and market development of peanuts. PCA is deeply involved with all aspects of the peanut processing value-chain, from developing new peanut crop varieties to drying and shelling, grading, blanching, sorting, roasting and granulating the final product. As one of the world’s leading exclusive processors of peanuts, our trading partners include some of the world’s leading food manufacturers and have a vision expand this well into the future. We are looking for a Plant Breeder to join our PCA family. This role is designed to breed new peanut cultivars that are specifically adapted to Australian conditions and have unique quality characteristics that differentiate Aussie peanuts in national and international markets. This role will liaise closely with the Farming Services, Operations and Sales teams to ensure new cultivars have traits which are agronomically, operationally and market acceptable. Responsibilities Conduct research using primary data sources and select information needed for the analysis of key themes and trends. Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving queries and issues and referring very complex or contentious issues to others. Analyse specific problems and issues to find the best solutions. Solutions could be technical or professional in nature. Identify shortcomings in existing processes, systems and procedures, and use established change management programs to address them. Explore issues or needs, establishing potential causes and barriers as well as related issues About you Degree in Plant Breeding, Genetics, Agronomy, Physiology, or relevant discipline, with post-graduate degree/experience highly desired Minimum 5 years relevant industry experience, ideally in leading a commercial plant breeding program.
