The Opportunity
Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for an Electrical/Automation Engineer in our Slabmaking Engineering team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
At our Port Kembla Slabmaking Team, we process molten iron into steel slabs for the domestic and international markets. The Slabmaking area encompasses the following equipment: BOS, Steel Treatment, Slab Caster, Slab Handling, Refractories and Scrap Yard. It's an exciting time to be joining our team as we automate and digitalize our business with innovative solutions to increase safety and efficiency while reducing our carbon footprint. We have a pipeline of future projects (in carbon reduction, automation, and digitalisation) over the next decade that need to be resourced by the best and brightest as we sustain our business as a world leading steel manufacturer.
What Will You Do?
Working in a supportive environment, you’ll contribute to the safety of our people, the quality of our product and the reliability of our equipment, In addition, you will:
- ensure safety standards are never compromised, making suitable changes when risks and opportunities are identified
- lead and manage the electrical and automation reliability standards for operating the plant
- ensure the relevant management of electrical and PLC systems, and HMI functions are established, implemented, and maintained
- ensure customer expectations are achieved by liaising with external suppliers and industry experts on technical issues and collaborating with technical teams and product owners on new and innovative solutions
More About You
Along with your technical skills, you will have experience in applying your analytical skills to address process performance. You will also bring:
- tertiary degree qualifications in Electrical Engineering, or Mechatronics or similar
- good working knowledge of software design, process control systems, and PLC software and SCADA development.
- and/or experience with design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components, including power distribution systems, motors, and control systems on automation projects (incl. robotics).
- a commitment to the safety and wellbeing of yourself and others
- developed communication and influencing skills - building constructive and effective relationships
