Northline are on the lookout for a certified and experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain our fleet and join the Darwin team. This opportunity is ideal for an applicant who is motivated and looking to further their career in the Transport and Logistics Industry. The position is Full-time, Monday to Friday with shift commencing from approximately 6.30am.
The Diesel Mechanic will assist with the pro-active maintenance program which ensures that all Northline Trucks and Trailers are mechanically sound and operationally reliable and roadworthy. To provide an efficient and effective mechanical service involving the repair, servicing and maintenance of plant, equipment and the vehicle fleet of Northline.
Plant includes but is not limited to Heavy Commercials, Heavy Trailers, Containers, Container Handling and Lifting Equipment, light fleet and ancillary items. You will also provide rostered on-call maintenance when necessary to minimise any adverse impact upon the operational performance of the Northline Fleet.
Key responsibilities
• Recognise problems/ issues, analyses, formulate and implement appropriate solutions, in relation to all equipment and plant in the Northline Fleet.
• Diagnose problems from electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics.
• Accessing on-board self-diagnostic systems in the engine control unit (ECU) and central processing unit (CPU) and interpret test procedures and results.
• Ensure that work is performed to comply with the appropriate Australian Design Rules (ADR) and Transport Authority Regulation.
• Ensure that all Northline vehicles, specialist machinery and plant are maintained as per manufacturers specifications.
• Ensure maximum availability of Northline plant, vehicles and specialist machinery.
• Interpret manuals and software to identify spare parts and liaise with the workshop manager or Mechanic in Charge in regard to parts ordering.
• Comply with all documented WH&S policies, procedures, work instructions and verbal instructions issued by Manager and Supervisors.
• Correctly use and maintain all personal protective clothing and equipment supplied by Northline.
• Conduct scheduled maintenance on Northline trucks and trailers to ensure that equipment complies with roadworthy conditions.
• Conduct preventative maintenance on Northline trucks and trailers to ensure the equipment complies with roadworthy conditions.
• Compliance with Company Policies with commitment to OH&S
• You may be required to undertake tasks and responsibilities not listed in this Position Description from time to time as instructed by your Supervisor or Manager.
• Maintain the workshop in a clean, ordered and effective manner.
• Have good communication skills (written and oral).
• Be able to work as a part of a team and under pressure with limited supervision
• Be physically able to perform the inherent physical duties of the role.
• Be willing to be available to attend out of hours breakdowns and vehicle retrievals, if required.
Key Competencies & Technical Requirements
• High levels of focus and a commitment to Health, Safety & Environment practices.
• Be Trade Qualified Diesel Mechanic or have relevant hands on experience
• Have experience and demonstrated ability in the service and repairs of heavy trucks and trailers, including, but not limited to Hino, Fuso, Kenworth, Volvo, Mack and Freightliner Trucks.
• Minor Engine work including top end tunes to Caterpillar C15, C16, Cummins, Hino and Mitsubishi engines.
• All repairs to a trailer fleet that consists of CIMC, Freightliner and Hallmark semi-trailers and Fridge Vans repairs including brake overhauls, bearing repacks, curtain repairs, electrical repairs, suspension rebuilds and regular scheduled servicing.
• Have a positive can-do attitude.
• A commitment to a safe and tidy work environment.
• Use logic and critical thinking to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
• Have consideration to the relative costs and benefits of potential actions and solutions to select the appropriate course of action.
• Excellent time management skills processing a confidence with your skills and abilities.
• Paperwork skills, high accuracy of reporting and recording all jobs completed on a daily basis.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and to implement time management principles to prioritise work and meet deadlines.

Salary and application
An effective salary of between $80,001 and $100,000 per annum, depending on skills and experience is on offer. Remuneration will reflect current market conditions and industry award rates and will be discussed with the successful applicant.
