We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Financial Crime Team and help advance our Financial Crimes monitoring program  

As payment methods evolve, so too do the efforts of criminals in their attempts to defraud businesses and consumers.  From sophisticated online scams to identity theft and phishing. We’re looking for a Data Scientist to continue to drive forward Cuscal’s robust fraud monitoring solutions that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to stay ahead of emerging fraud trends, while protecting our clients; their customers, brand, and balance sheets.  

Reporting to the Senior Data Scientist, the Data Scientist will identify, prioritise and undertake a range of research and analytical activities leveraging all available data assets to help solve complex business problems.  

About the Role: 

1) Data Science Strategy and Planning: 

• Develop Cuscal fraud detection and prevention strategies to stay ahead of emerging fraud trends and evolving threats.  

• Formulate a coherent cross-business approach and strategic/tactical plan for big data initiatives. 

2) Data Analysis and Modelling 

• Conduct proactive, in-depth analysis of multiple data sets to prevent high-risk and financial crimes activity and emerging threats or optimize current monitoring across multiple channels, including cards, 3D secure, digital wallets, real-time payments, and PayTo.  

• Develop and optimise predictive modelling software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large data sets from multiple disparate sources. 

• Perform deep-dive analyses of experiments through reliable modelling methods that include numerous explanatory variables and covariates.  

• Translate analytical insights into concrete, actionable business, process, or product improvement recommendations. 

3) Continuous Improvement: 

• Deliver continuous improvement activities to prevent threats while optimizing customer experience and operational outcomes, including improvements to identify undetected fraud.  

• Ensure all processes for data analysis, machine learning models, and model governance are aligned to Cuscal’s AI strategy, including best practice guidelines for instrumentation and experimentation. 

• Adopt data science best practices to deliver quantitative improvements to the analytics and process modelling functions.

About You: 

• University qualification in data science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. Industry certifications related to data science and fraud detection highly regarded  

• Demonstrated experience working with tools that deploy fraud rules and Machine Learning algorithms. 

• Financial Services experience in payments, Card payments, Acquiring, 3D secure, Digital banking and real-time payments. Experience in fraud and financial crimes is desirable.   

• Understanding of relational databases and programming, including SQL, R, and Python 

• Experience interpreting data from visualisation tools such as PowerBI and visualisation libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, and Plotly. 

• Data mining of large data sets to identify emerging patterns, trends and opportunities. 

• Knowledge of Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models is desirable.

We are looking for a Financial Analyst, Regulatory Reporting & Treasury to join our Finance, Reporting & Control team.

What is this role about?

In this newly created, critical role, you will be responsible for the preparation and submission of accurate APRA regulatory reports. You will work closely with various departments to gather necessary data and ensure timely reporting. Daily monitoring and reconciliation for the Treasury function, responsibility for internal reporting and monitoring of prudential limits; and ensuring a robust control environment where risk is managed on a daily basis.

• Ownership and maintenance of the team’s regulatory reporting requirements calendar
• Preparation and submission of Group Finance’s APRA reporting requirements, primarily including Balance Sheet, Liquidity, Risk and Capital Adequacy reporting
• Collaborate with finance, risk, and compliance teams to gather and validate data for reporting purposes
• Conduct data analysis and ensure completeness of regulatory returns
• Assist in Regulatory Capital reporting to the Board and sub-committees
• Preparation of Regulatory Capital forecasting
• Providing support and inputs to the Risk team to assist them in discharging their APRA governance and risk management duties
• Preparation of daily Treasury control functions (P&L review, reconciliations)
• Daily and monthly monitoring of prudential limits (e.g. APS 110/111 Capital, APS 221/222 exposures) in line with internal policy and APRA requirements
• Conduct detailed analyses of treasury data to identify trends and variances
• Maintain and reconcile Treasury related general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data, as well as resolve and escalate reconciliation issues in accordance with policy
• Ensure all assigned tasks are performed per documented internal policies

As part of the Line 2 Risk Office, you will work in a diverse and varied capacity to continue to uplift risk management capabilities at TAL.

This role is responsible for the oversight of TAL’s financial risks including the management of the Risk Appetite Statement, ICAAP Summary Statement, Recovery Plan and other risk policies and frameworks. You will work closely with business and actuarial teams to
provide advice and oversight to strengthen financial and insurance risk governance and play a key role in overseeing product sustainability for TAL’s existing and new businesses.

• Provide risk and compliance advice, insights and challenge to support the embedment of the Risk Management Framework with a focus on financial risks.
• Lead the design, implementation and maintenance of the Risk Appetite Statement and the Recovery Plan.
• Partner with the Capital team to enhance and challenge the Internal Capital Adequacy Assessment Process (ICAAP) framework.
• Provide insights and coordinate the development of stress scenarios.
• Establish strong relationships with business stakeholders to embed and increase awareness of the Risk Management Framework.
• Provide risk advice on projects relating to the financial risk portfolio.
• Conduct reviews on emerging risks and other focus areas.
• Present the outcomes of reviews to senior management and at Board or committee meetings.
• Provide guidance and support to direct report and other members of the broader Risk Office.
