We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Financial Crime Team and help advance our Financial Crimes monitoring program  

As payment methods evolve, so too do the efforts of criminals in their attempts to defraud businesses and consumers.  From sophisticated online scams to identity theft and phishing. We’re looking for a Data Scientist to continue to drive forward Cuscal’s robust fraud monitoring solutions that leverage artificial intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to stay ahead of emerging fraud trends, while protecting our clients; their customers, brand, and balance sheets.  

Reporting to the Senior Data Scientist, the Data Scientist will identify, prioritise and undertake a range of research and analytical activities leveraging all available data assets to help solve complex business problems.  

About the Role: 

1) Data Science Strategy and Planning: 

• Develop Cuscal fraud detection and prevention strategies to stay ahead of emerging fraud trends and evolving threats.  

• Formulate a coherent cross-business approach and strategic/tactical plan for big data initiatives. 

2) Data Analysis and Modelling 

• Conduct proactive, in-depth analysis of multiple data sets to prevent high-risk and financial crimes activity and emerging threats or optimize current monitoring across multiple channels, including cards, 3D secure, digital wallets, real-time payments, and PayTo.  

• Develop and optimise predictive modelling software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large data sets from multiple disparate sources. 

• Perform deep-dive analyses of experiments through reliable modelling methods that include numerous explanatory variables and covariates.  

• Translate analytical insights into concrete, actionable business, process, or product improvement recommendations. 

3) Continuous Improvement: 

• Deliver continuous improvement activities to prevent threats while optimizing customer experience and operational outcomes, including improvements to identify undetected fraud.  

• Ensure all processes for data analysis, machine learning models, and model governance are aligned to Cuscal’s AI strategy, including best practice guidelines for instrumentation and experimentation. 

• Adopt data science best practices to deliver quantitative improvements to the analytics and process modelling functions.

About You: 

• University qualification in data science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field. Industry certifications related to data science and fraud detection highly regarded  

• Demonstrated experience working with tools that deploy fraud rules and Machine Learning algorithms. 

• Financial Services experience in payments, Card payments, Acquiring, 3D secure, Digital banking and real-time payments. Experience in fraud and financial crimes is desirable.   

• Understanding of relational databases and programming, including SQL, R, and Python 

• Experience interpreting data from visualisation tools such as PowerBI and visualisation libraries such as Matplotlib, Seaborn, and Plotly. 

• Data mining of large data sets to identify emerging patterns, trends and opportunities. 

• Knowledge of Natural Language Processing and Large Language Models is desirable.

We are currently looking for an experienced Financial Accountant to join our team based out of our Brisbane or Melbourne Support Centre.

Reporting to Financial Accounting Manager, successful candidate will play a key role in preparing monthly accounting reports and financial statements that are used by management to judge the performance of the company.

Responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:

Assist in preparation of all tax matters and compliance:

• Perform yearly FBT preparation and collection of required information
• Perform monthly BAS preparation and control checks
• Support income tax return preparation
• Prepare bi-monthly NZ GST lodgements and control checks
• Prepare various other tax compliance lodgements required by the ATO (eg. TPAR lodgements)

Intercompany transactions:

• Manage AR/AP transactions relating to Intercompany
• Send monthly statement to Interco counterparts and arrange for cash settlements with Treasury
• Intercompany reconciliation
• Month-end FX adjustments
• HFM company balances reporting and variances resolution

Support function cost activities and month end preparation:

• Perform month-end transactions and reporting
• Perform adjustments and accruals to ensure correct and accurate levels of costs

Leased vehicles:

• Update and maintain lease accounting software and reconciliation of accounting entries relating to lease accounting in accordance with IFRS16

Payroll management and accounting:

• Manage the posting of payroll journals (monthly and fortnightly) and preparing and reconciliation of Worker’s Compensation payments

Other duties:

• Supporting Financial Accounting Manager in managing offshore resources, projects and other initiatives
• Assist with the preparation of the annual financial information to be provided to the external auditors
• Assist in preparing tax provisions and compliance reporting
• Assist with interim and year-end audits
• Accurate preparation and reporting high volume of transactions, meeting a strict, challenging deadlines
• Working closely with various stakeholders to ensure all balances in Balance Sheets accounts are accurate and valid through the management of the General Ledger Reconciliations

Preferred candidate will have:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting
• Working towards CA/CPA qualification is desirable
• At least 5 years relevant accounting experience
• International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) (Intermediate)
• Income Tax Legislation (Intermediate)
• Microsoft Dynamics (Intermediate)
• Microsoft Office Suite (Intermediate)

• Demonstrated ability in meeting deadlines, to be able to set realistic goals, problem solve and establish priorities

We are looking for a Financial Analyst, Regulatory Reporting & Treasury to join our Finance, Reporting & Control team.

What is this role about?

In this newly created, critical role, you will be responsible for the preparation and submission of accurate APRA regulatory reports. You will work closely with various departments to gather necessary data and ensure timely reporting. Daily monitoring and reconciliation for the Treasury function, responsibility for internal reporting and monitoring of prudential limits; and ensuring a robust control environment where risk is managed on a daily basis.

• Ownership and maintenance of the team’s regulatory reporting requirements calendar
• Preparation and submission of Group Finance’s APRA reporting requirements, primarily including Balance Sheet, Liquidity, Risk and Capital Adequacy reporting
• Collaborate with finance, risk, and compliance teams to gather and validate data for reporting purposes
• Conduct data analysis and ensure completeness of regulatory returns
• Assist in Regulatory Capital reporting to the Board and sub-committees
• Preparation of Regulatory Capital forecasting
• Providing support and inputs to the Risk team to assist them in discharging their APRA governance and risk management duties
• Preparation of daily Treasury control functions (P&L review, reconciliations)
• Daily and monthly monitoring of prudential limits (e.g. APS 110/111 Capital, APS 221/222 exposures) in line with internal policy and APRA requirements
• Conduct detailed analyses of treasury data to identify trends and variances
• Maintain and reconcile Treasury related general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data, as well as resolve and escalate reconciliation issues in accordance with policy
• Ensure all assigned tasks are performed per documented internal policies
