Position Title: Metal Machinist First Class

Job Summary: The Metal Machinist First Class is responsible for operating and maintaining metal machining equipment to produce precision components according to engineering specifications. This role involves working with a variety of metals and alloys, interpreting technical drawings, adjusting machine settings, performing quality checks, and ensuring the overall efficiency and safety of the machining process.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machine Setup and Operation:
• Set up and calibrate metal machining equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machines.
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine machining requirements.
• Select appropriate tools, fixtures, and materials for each job.
• Operate machines to cut, shape, drill, grind, or finish metal components to required dimensions and surface finishes.
2. Quality Control:
• Conduct in-process and final inspections using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
• Monitor machining processes to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
• Make adjustments to machine settings or tooling as necessary to maintain quality and accuracy.
3. Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
• Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines to ensure optimal performance and prevent downtime.
• Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and perform minor repairs or adjustments as needed.
• Notify supervisors of any significant equipment issues or maintenance requirements.
4. Safety and Compliance:
• Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines while operating machinery and handling materials.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents and ensure efficiency.
• Follow established procedures for handling hazardous materials, waste disposal, and personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
5. Team Collaboration:
• Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to resolve technical issues and improve processes.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and other stakeholders to coordinate workflow and prioritize tasks.
6. Continuous Improvement:
• Identify opportunities for process improvement, waste reduction, and cost savings in machining operations.
• Suggest and implement innovative techniques, tools, or technologies to enhance productivity and quality.
Qualifications and Skills:
• Education: High school certificate or equivalent; additional technical training or Trade certificate in machining is preferred.
• Experience: Proven experience as a Metal Machinist or similar role, with proficiency in operating manual and CNC machining equipment.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents.
• Knowledge of metal properties, cutting tools, machining techniques, and measuring instruments.
• Experience with CAD/CAM software and programming for CNC machines is advantageous.
• Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills to diagnose and resolve machining issues.
• Attention to Detail: Precision and accuracy in machining operations and quality inspections.
• Safety Awareness: Understanding of workplace safety protocols and practices in a manufacturing environment.
• Communication: Effective verbal and written communication skills to collaborate with team members and convey technical information.
• Adaptability: Ability to work independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment with changing priorities.
