OVERVIEW:
The Painting Trades Worker at SARAO PAINTING PTY LTD will perform a range of tasks related to the preparation and application of paint, coatings, and finishes to surfaces in residential, commercial, and industrial settings. This role is crucial in ensuring that surfaces are protected and enhanced, contributing to the overall aesthetic and structural integrity of buildings.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Surface Preparation:
Cleaning Surfaces: Remove dirt, old paint, and contaminants using techniques like scraping, sanding, and power washing.
Repairing Surfaces: Fill holes and cracks using spackle, joint compound, or fillers, and patch drywall or repair wood as necessary.
Priming: Apply primers to surfaces to ensure optimal paint adhesion and durability.
Mixing Paint and Coatings:
Color Matching: Use tinting systems and color charts for accurate paint matching.
Mixing Paint: Mix paints, stains, and finishes to the correct consistency and color, sometimes adding solvents or other substances to achieve the desired formula.
Applying Paint and Coatings:
Use brushes, rollers, and spray guns to apply paint evenly on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces.
Apply multiple coats of paint, ensuring appropriate drying time between layers.
Perform specialized finishes such as faux finishes, textures, and varnishes for decorative or functional purposes.
Surface Protection and Cleanup:
Masking and Covering: Use tape, plastic sheeting, or drop cloths to protect floors, furniture, and other surfaces from paint splatter.
Cleanup: Clean tools and equipment after each job and ensure the work area is left neat and free of paint spills.
Maintaining Equipment and Tools:
Regularly clean and maintain painting tools such as brushes, rollers, and spray guns.
Keep track of painting supplies and ensure sufficient materials are available for upcoming projects.
Safety and Compliance:
Safety Standards: Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE) like masks, goggles, gloves, and respirators when necessary.
Compliance: Ensure all work adheres to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines and environmental regulations, including proper disposal of hazardous materials.
Estimating and Planning:
Estimate the quantity of paint and materials needed for projects and calculate associated costs.
Plan project timelines, ensuring work is completed on schedule while coordinating with other trades when necessary.
Client Interaction and Communication:
Consult with clients to discuss color options, finishes, and project timelines, providing professional recommendations.
Update clients and supervisors on project progress, especially if delays or issues arise.
Specialized Tasks:
Perform decorative painting, create custom designs, and apply protective coatings, such as waterproofing or rust-resistant treatments.
REQUIREMENTS:
Australian Citizens and Permanent Residents are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Certificate III in Painting and Decorating
Minimum 2 Years of experience in the role
Proficiency in using painting tools, equipment, and techniques.
Ability to produce high-quality finishes with precision and cleanliness.
The role requires standing, bending, and lifting, as well as working in various environments, such as on scaffolding or high ladders.
Strong understanding of different paints, stains, and finishes and their appropriate applications.
