Position: Brick Layer
Location of work: 3 Kilmore Crescent, Dallas, Vic- 3047
Employment type: Permanent, Full time
Salary Range: $70,000 to $75,000 plus Superannuation
Main Responsibilities:
• Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry.
• Plan and organise work.
• Conduct workplace communication.
• Carry out measurements and calculations.
• Read and interpret plans and specifications.
• Apply basic levelling procedures.
• Erect and dismantle restricted height scaffolding.
• Carry out basic demolition.
• Apply OHS requirements, policies, and procedures in the construction industry.
• Handle and prepare bricklaying and block-laying materials.
• Use bricklaying and block-laying tools and equipment.
• Carry out masonry veneer construction.
• Carry out cavity brick construction.
• Construct masonry steps and stairs.
• Lay masonry walls and corners.
• Lay multi-thickness walls and piers.
• Install flashing and damp-proof course.
• Construct masonry arches.
• Construct curved walls.
• Install fire-rated masonry construction.
• Construct fireplaces and chimneys.
• Construct masonry structural systems.
• Construct decorative brickwork.
• Construct battered masonry walls and piers.
• Carry out tuckpointing to brickwork.
• Install aerated autoclaved concrete products.
• Use explosive power tools.
• Work safely at heights.
• Carry out concreting to simple forms.
• Place and fix reinforcement materials.
To be considered for this role, your key skills must include:
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, understand construction specifications, and use tools and equipment effectively.
• Proficiency in laying bricks, blocks, and stones accurately and efficiently to construct walls and other structures.
• Ability to work precisely to ensure that bricks are laid in a straight line and at the correct level.
• Strength and stamina to lift heavy materials and work on their feet for long periods.
• Good hand-eye coordination is essential for handling bricks and tools with precision.
• Basic math skills are needed for measuring and cutting materials and calculating angles and dimensions.
• Ability to identify and solve problems that may arise during the construction process.
• Work as part of a team to be able to collaborate effectively with other tradespeople.
• Understanding of safety regulations and practices to ensure a safe working environment.
• Ability to work efficiently to meet project deadlines and manage time effectively.
Relevant qualifications: AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV
