About the Internship

The eight-week paid Radio Internship Program is an ideal opportunity for the next generation of Australia's diverse radio talent to build their skills and get real-world experience under their belt.  We're seeking passionate and ambitious individuals who are eager to gain hands-on experience across our various radio departments.

Across the eight weeks, no two days will look the same, giving you a broad hands-on feel for what it’s like to work within our Radio station! One day you might be creating content with our producers and on-air talent across our different programs, engaging audiences through posts on our social media platforms! You will truly gain a comprehensive understanding of what it’s like to work within our Radio station. 

Based out of Melbourne CBD, the internship program is managed by our Radio Station / Content Manager and you will be buddied up with a Mentor for each of your rotations.

About the role

A newly created Internal Communications / Content role has become available within our Communications team here at AGL.

You will play an important role in supporting employee communications for AGL’s operational business (Integrated Energy) as well as corporate functions such as Technology and Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSE), ultimately enhancing employee engagement.

This is a full time or part time (4 days a week) position, based in either Melbourne or Adelaide (Torrens Island).

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate Communications you will:

• Act as a corporate ‘journalist’, identifying, researching and drafting engaging stories for a range of formats, including intranet stories, newsletters and social media.
• Develop engaging internal communication campaign assets to help connect employees to our strategic priorities, with crisp engaging copy and sharp graphic design.
• Develop copy and visual communication in support of thematic employee campaigns, aligning with AGL brand guide.
• Coordinate with communications and business partner stakeholders around scheduling of content.
• Develop engaging, nuanced written and visual communication materials for diverse audiences, including leader briefing packs, fact sheets and digital posters
• Use direct mail and other platforms to analyse and report on the effectiveness of content. Use this analysis to draw insights and inform future content.

About you

What you’ll bring to the table

• Proven experience in corporate communications, in an in-house or agency role.
• Experience developing and implementing internal communication plans, with sound stakeholder engagement skills.
• Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, coupled with excellent attention to detail.
• Experience developing content- graphic design for digital and non-digital environments.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite as well as superior Microsoft PowerPoint and Word skills.
• Ability to distil complex concepts into simple, accessible language.
• The ability to work autonomously and as part of a team and effectively manage time and prioritise workload.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

• Design, develop and deploy solutions and hands-on software development – working closely with leads, designers, and product managers to deliver features and experiments to our customers worldwide
• Primarily working on web frontend with Typescript, but may need to work with other languages and environments
• Facilitate knowledge sharing and optimally advocate for engineering needs to non-technical team members within the group
• Models initiative and ownership in achieving goals and improving processes and solutions
• Finds opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new insights and improvements that help achieve our goals

You're probably a match if

• Commercial experience in a software development environment, ideally with experience in building internal or external SDKs or APIs.
• Our frontend stack consists of JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, TypeScript, MobX, etc.. Experience in some of these would be valuable but not required.
• Firmly grounded computer science and engineering fundamentals including asynchronous programming, data structures, solution design, architecture, and design patterns.
• Understanding of browser rendering pipeline, event handling, WebWorkers, WebGL/WebGPU would be a bonus, but not required.
• Previous experience in working collaboratively with team members and communicating effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break large projects down into smaller ones and deliver on them through others.
• Passion for performance debugging and benchmarking
• Good written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have:

• Experience localising or internationalising a software product.
