About the role...

The Chief Engineer at Novotel Surfers Paradise will be responsible for overseeing all engineering and maintenance operations, ensuring the highest standards of safety, security, and asset protection across the property. This role will lead the maintenance of the building, grounds, and physical plant while managing the department’s budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance programs, and energy conservation initiatives. The Chief Engineer will ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and lead the emergency response team for any facility-related issues, ensuring exceptional service and a exceptional guest experience.

• Oversee all aspects of the physical plant, including HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, water treatment, electrical systems, and life safety equipment, ensuring optimal performance and luxury-level service.
• Lead and ensure the effective operation of all engineering systems, guaranteeing that all equipment operates at peak efficiency, safety, and effectiveness.
• Manage the engineering department’s budget, including capital expenditures, operational costs, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation projects.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for the property.
• Record meter readings and liaise with the General Manager regarding options to improve energy management and conservation in keeping with Gaia2.0 Commitments.
• Be responsible for the testing of fire alarms, emergency lighting etc. on a routine basis as required by local Council and Fire Service.
• Be available to carry out emergency maintenance work outside of normal working hours, as required for full power failure, evacuation fire system re-set and/or failure of mechanical systems.
• Maintain records of repair work and daily checks as required by local Council, Government and Manufacturer specifications.
• Liaise closely with Front Desk and Housekeeping regarding out of service rooms to expedite a quick turn around and return to inventory.
• Ensure the external areas of the hotel are maintained in line with Company brand standards.
• Prepare monthly Maintenance reports, commenting on key performance indicators and action taken to keep on target.
• Adherence to Emergency Communication procedures ensuring that enquiries from the media are only responded to by the nominated spokesperson.

• At all times you will monitor, identify and where possible eliminate work place hazards and risks. This will be in line with the policies established under the guidelines within InterREACT (The primary objective of the InterREACT program is to protect Accor and its employees by ensuring that all Accor locations are identifying and managing their operational risks, both effectively and efficiently, by implementing a pre-determined and standardized set of procedures, augmented by specific State requirements where required.)
• As a member of the Emergency Planning Committee (EPC) you will attend scheduled meetings and actively participate in activities to support the Accor / NSP Risk Management program.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement the enterprise-wide data architecture strategy, including hands-on development of proof-of-concepts for new technologies and frameworks
• Architect and actively develop complex distributed systems that can scale across multiple regions and handle diverse data workloads
•  Develop, manage, and optimize ETL processes using Azure Data Factory to ensure accurate data integration across global databases
• Design, build, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring data is well-organized, accessible, and secure
• Lead by example through hands-on development and implementation of advanced data processing frameworks that can be reused across multiple teams
• Define technical standards and best practices for data engineering across the organization through practical implementation and documentation
• Evaluate emerging technologies through proof-of-concept development and make recommendations for adoption or retirement of data technologies
• Identify and implement performance optimization strategies for ETL processes and reports to ensure optimal user experience
• Monitor and troubleshoot complex data processes to ensure uninterrupted service to global teams, including working occasionally outside regular business hours to support multiple time zones
• Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, architectural diagrams, and best practices
• Ensure data governance and compliance principles are maintained across all architectural decisions
• Communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders effectively, tailoring the messaging as needed for diverse audiences
• Mentor and guide team members in technical best practices and architectural principles
• Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders

Required Technical Skills:

• Expert-level proficiency in SQL and database optimization techniques
• Hands-on expertise in Azure services, particularly Azure Data Factory, Azure SQL Database, and Azure Analysis Services
• Deep practical experience with Data Warehousing using Kimball and STAR schema
• Strong coding abilities in at least one programming language (Python, Java, or C#)
• Hands-on experience with distributed computing frameworks
• Practical experience implementing data streaming solutions
• Expert knowledge of performance tuning and optimization techniques
