Our Journey
The Mental Health Intellectual Disability Initiative - Adults (MHIDI-A)/Stronger together team is part of the Casey Adult Mental Health program and is located in Thomas Street, Dandenong. We provide consultation, multidisciplinary specialist assessment and treatment to people who have been diagnosed over the age of 16 years, with developmental-intellectual disability and a co-existing diagnosed mental health condition or suspected mental health condition (dual disability), many of whom will have complex presentations and challenging behaviours. We now have an exciting opportunity available for an Educator - Registered Psychiatric Nurse to join us, working full time, 80 hours per fortnight (with a monthly ADO).

A Day in the Life:
This role works in collaboration with the clinical team and a range of internal and external stakeholders, to assist in improved outcomes for consumers with diagnosed or suspected mental illness and co-existing intellectual disability (dual disability).
This will be achieved by developing, implementing and evaluating education and training as in relation to the MHIDI-A program objectives. This role will also carry a small clinical case load.
A key requirement of this post is education and capacity building of health and disability care professionals.
This opportunity is full time role ongoing role working Monday to Friday.
The position will also work in collaboration with other team members to consolidate the Model of Care, formulate clear service policy and guidelines and ensure the service is compliant with Quality & Safety, OHS and all other areas of reporting.

About You:
You are a suitably qualified Mental Health Nurse
You have experience in or have a keen interest in the intellectual disability sector. Whilst you can work autonomously you are also a strong team player and work efficiently in a team environment and are passionate to achieve outstanding outcomes for our consumers. You are also an advocate of Monash Health’s Strategic Guiding Principles.

What you need:
Appropriate tertiary qualifications in a discipline such as Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology and/or Social Work
Current Victorian Drivers Licence
Experience working with people with a Dual disability; Mental Health and Intellectual Disability is highly desirable but not essential

Nursing:

Registered Nurse with current registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA)
Post Graduate Masters qualification in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing or completion of a specialist undergraduate psychiatric nursing program

As a new grad, you will work across our Perth Metro Clinics - MT PLEASANT & BELMONT - experience private practice lifestyle working with a varied caseload across both clinics. This will provide you with more exposure to learn, grow and adapt to different environments and caseloads.

This means we provide great patient care, this including appropriate assessment of the issue (which may include pain, loss of function, range of motion), formulating and implementing treatment programs* to address the issue (which may include joint mobilisations and manipulation, soft tissue therapy, exercise therapy), reviewing, monitoring, reassessing and reevaluating programs and treatments, consulting with other Health Professionals as required about patients' problems, recording treatments given and patients' responses and progress.
Our Physios have a strong focus in providing effective hands-on treatment as well as exercise based programs.
