About the Role
Location:
This position offers the flexibility of hybrid work between your home and our office on the edge of Melbourne CBD.
Team background:
This newly created position within our Software team. You’d be joining a talented and close-knit group of engineers with expertise in software, systems, battery and data science. You would also collaborate with our Innovation and Hardware teams, providing further professional development opportunities.
Who we’re looking for:
An experienced Embedded Systems Engineer with proficiency in at least one embedded programming language, for example, C, C++, or Rust.
You will bring familiarity with the software development lifecycle and common embedded peripherals. You have fundamental electronics expertise and can produce clear documentation, specifications and technical reports.
You are a fast learner who has a passion for renewable energy, willing to take the initiative to seek out knowledge, improve ways of working, and actively engage with colleagues to ensure an exemplary product experience for our customers.
What you’ll be doing:
You will contribute to the on-time delivery projects via effective task management and software development - writing and optimising code for readability, maintainability and performance. You will also conduct testing and debugging activities to ensure code functionality and always maintain a keen focus on minimising repeat errors through improved methods.
You will support your team’s work by writing high-quality technical documentation for system architecture and development processes.
As part of a collaborative team, you will work with others daily, contributing to code reviews, system integrations and project objectives. As someone who stays current on trends and development practices, you will proactively share new approaches and ideas with your colleagues.
Applicants must have full working rights in Australia and be willing to undergo pre-employment background checks (i.e. working rights, criminal history, and employment references).
Must-have experience:
- Proficiency in at least one embedded programming language, e.g., C, C++, or Rust.
- Familiarity with common embedded peripherals, e.g., SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, etc.
- Familiarity with the software development lifecycle, including Git-based version control and workflows.
- Fundamental electronics expertise, including reading schematics, basic design principles, and troubleshooting hardware.
- Ability to produce clear documentation, specifications, and technical reports.
Nice-to-have experience:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or related field.
- Proficiency in Rust would be highly regarded.
- Experience with building and configuring Linux distributions for embedded targets.
- Proficiency in a scripting language.
- Experience with power electronics and control systems.
- Experience with energy storage systems and battery technology.
- Demonstrated a history of innovation and contributions to open-source projects.
