The Opportunity

To support our existing portfolio of projects, we are looking for an experienced Senior Mechanical/Process Designer for a full-time role with our team in Melbourne. You will have the opportunity to contribute to significant water infrastructure projects via our strong partnerships with water authorities.

You will be a key member of KBR’s Water team who, in a joint venture with John Holland has been delivering Melbourne Water’s complex infrastructure projects through major design and construction framework, that will see us supporting Melbourne Water for well over a decade of continuous service.

In addition, the team are delivering major capital projects to South East Water’s record $1.5 billion investment as part of a new industry partnership between Abergeldie, BMD & KBR (ABK). The 10-year contract will see ABK plan and deliver major infrastructure upgrades in partnership with Southeast Water as part of a new integrated capital works planning and delivery model.

You would be responsible for using 2D and 3D computer aided design applications to develop and record designs as models and drawings. You will evaluate design intent provided by professional engineers and translate that into the model or drawing.

Additionally, you will assist in the design of larger and more complex assignments that involve conventional plans, investigations, and surveys. Primarily this is for infrastructure, water and wastewater treatment, stormwater and drainage, pumping, piping and pipelines, chemical storage and dosing, minor structural and civil elements.  

Who are you?

We are seeking a candidate who has extensive experience of design within the process/mechanical disciplines on water infrastructure.

You are confident to work with stakeholders across all levels and have a willingness to provide technical assistance and guidance to designers and less experienced engineers.

You should be able to deal one on one and facilitate group discussions to foster the level of collaboration required to create an environment for individuals to achieve optimum design (2D/3D) performance.

You will also have the following skills & experience:

• Associate degree, Diploma, Associate Diploma of Design or Engineering or similar para-professional level qualification, or equivalent experience.
• Previous consulting/design/technical experience on water infrastructure as a designer (preferable 10 – 15 years of experience)
• Extensive experience in the practice of the drafting and design in the general mechanical / process engineering sector using various software, preferably AutoCAD.
• Demonstrated understanding of local industry standards and market sector.
• Effective communication skills (verbal and written).

Collaborating closely with key stakeholders, you'll play a role in crafting the visual identity of our sustainable lifestyle products. Leveraging your expertise in SolidWorks, CAD, KeyShot, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop, you will translate conceptual designs into detailed plans for prototyping. Collaborating seamlessly with tooling engineers, you will navigate projects through to manufacturing, ensuring the delivery of products that not only meet high aesthetic standards but also adhere to relevant guidelines and regulations.

Your Day to Day

• Craft compelling solutions using great problem solving and conceptual thinking skills with the end user front of mind.
• Generating concept designs in CAD and then turn them into detailed CAD designs for prototyping.
• Collaboration with tooling engineers to move projects through to manufacture. 
• Rendering 2D and 3D CAD models in KeyShot.
• Work SolidWorks and KeyShot to prepare renders and build instore layouts.
• Define ownable and elevated aesthetic solutions.
• Be responsible for the detail development of concepts through the product life cycle for a diverse range of product categories.
• Ensure product compliance with relevant guidelines, procedures, and regulations.
• Prepare 2D & 3D model files and manage production documentation.

About the role

As a driven designer, you will be responsible for driving the creative direction of digital campaigns, leveraging your sound understanding of typography, layout, animation and design trends. Who we are looking for...

As a Product Designer at Paper Giant, you will apply your design expertise to a diverse range of client problems. You will be a hands-on maker and work collaboratively with project team members to deliver high-quality work for clients in the government, not-for-profit, and private sectors. You’ll scope and define design approaches, prototype and design digital interfaces, and create pathways for change through effective design and storytelling.

You have in-depth knowledge and experience in visual and communication design in diverse contexts and mediums. Knowledge and experience in applying human-centred design methodologies to achieve design outcomes is essential.

What you will do:

Show impact through design practice

• Tackle design problems that range from well-defined to ambiguous
• Solve client problems by applying a variety of design and creative approaches
• Use conceptual thinking to respond to user and client needs
• Use sketching, wireframing and prototyping to communicate and test possible futures for products, services, and physical/digital touchpoints
• Use design research to test ideas and inform design decisions and rationale
• Support the design and facilitation of online and in-person workshops
• Use customer journeys, service blueprints and experience maps as a way to uncover challenges and opportunities
• Collaborate on qualitative research (interviewing and sense-making) and turn insights into actionable plans for the client

• You can show at least one project where you designed and conducted qualitative research with the users of a product, service or policy;
• You can tailor outputs and design communication to meet client needs;
• You are willing to travel to conduct research if required;

Remuneration
