Founded in 1894, Ghella operate in the construction of large public projects and specialise in underground excavation and tunnelling works. Over the course of 120 years, we have built over 130 tunnels and connected more than 1,000 km’s of highways, railways and subways.
Operating in Australia since 2010, we are working on some of the largest infrastructure projects in the country and have established a recognised presence in the local infrastructure market. Our first project in Australia, Legacy Way, was named ‘Best Tunnelling Project in the World’ in 2013 and since then we have continued to take on some of the countries’ most crucial and challenging projects.
We are currently delivering in partnership with leading construction companies, projects that make a difference to the community with some of our current projects including Cross River Rail in Brisbane, Sydney’s M6 Stage 1, Sydney Metro West - Western Sydney Airport and Eastern Tunnelling package.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer/Project Engineer to join the team. Based onsite, in this role you will be responsible for coordinating planning, design interface, program and construction methods for the tunnel excavation and civil fit-out works. This role has the potential to integrate into the delivery team.
The key responsibilities will include:
• Manage on-site engineering functions directly and oversee junior employees, including site engineers and graduate engineers.
• Monitor the quality and quantity of incoming equipment and materials, review work drawings, construction, and specifications in comparison to site plans, and arrange for corrections or modifications when necessary.
• Coordinate the activities of the team, manage work schedules, and provide technical and administrative guidance to ensure efficient and cost-effective achievement of goals and objectives.
• Ensure timely project completion within budget constraints. Maintain records of completed work, incurred costs, materials used, and retain progress drawings.
• Assign tasks and assist in reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations, purchase orders, and subcontractor agreements for accuracy and compliance with required standards.
• Participate in planning activities
• Foster effective communication with clients, consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, and planning authorities to ensure the satisfactory completion of projects.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related industry
• High level verbal and written communication skills
• Proven experience in successfully delivering large work packages
• Prior experience in tunnel excavation, waterproofing and tunnel civil construction is preferred
• Ability to effectively manage budgets, systems and stakeholders to achieve an exceptional outcome
The successful candidate will be required to hold a current Construction Industry Induction Card (White Card or equivalent) and undergo a medical assessment (including drug and alcohol testing) prior to commencement.
