The People & Culture Risk and Governance team supports the continuous building of awareness and the strengthening of the risk management and governance practices across the People & Culture business unit. The team consists of operational risk management (Line 1 Risk), governance including regulatory amendments, strategic program management, board and executive team reporting and analytics & insights.

The People & Culture Risk Manager plays a critical role in the identification, management and mitigation of risk within People & Culture. The role includes a broad range of activities including control testing, leading the annual RCSA process, risk management through business unit change and reporting to the People & Culture Risk Committee. Additionally, the Risk Manager will oversee incident management and manage the CPS230 uplift program of work for People & Culture.

The role also provides advice and guidance to the business, promoting a strong risk culture, and supporting stakeholders to ensure successful operations within organisational risk & compliance frameworks.

The role works across the People & Culture team and closely with the People & Culture Leadership Team on risk and compliance related matters. This role also liaises with the Risk Office and Internal Audit across various Line 2 and Line 3 activities.

In addition, in this role you will:  

• Provide education and awareness of risk management and compliance across the People & Culture team (including running bi-annual new starter risk training).
• Develop and implement a People & Culture control testing plan aligned to the organisational framework, including conducting thorough critical control testing and reporting on outcomes to the People & Culture Leadership Team and Line 2.
• Oversee annual BCP review for P&C and participate in testing scenarios.
• Represent People & Culture at the Line 1 Risk forum, Operational Excellence Change Advocates forum and other Line 1 Risk enterprise-wide forums.
• Support Line 2 and Line 3 with relevant reviews/audits.
• Provide risk support and advice for People & Culture strategic priorities and projects, including risk in change.

This is a position within the Actuarial system team which has responsibility to assist Finance business areas for performing system changes required for ongoing BAU development and enhancements of actuarial systems in support of liability and capital valuations, embedded value, and business planning.

Key Accountabilities:

The Main activity of the role is to support the Actuarial System team in the design, build, test and implementation of Actuarial projection models (using the prophet enterprise platform) to meet additional model requirements from strategic project impacting finance analysis, reporting and operational processes.

Detailed activities include:

Projection Modelling (Prophet)

• Prepare and review technical specifications that meet end user requirements and teams coding standards
• Perform Prophet developments to specifications
• Perform and document system testing activities (unit testing, regression testing)
• Perform model reviews and identify areas of model improvement and efficiency
• Deploy approved changes to production environments in line with controls and procedures
• Identify areas of model improvement and efficiency

Data Management

• Analyse and specify data requirements (variable names, formats, attributes) for prophet model inputs and outputs
• Modify DCS processes to maintain system integration points in line with model changes
• Contribute to the build and implementation of data flow process interacting with the IDR (Insurance Data Repository for Prophet model inputs and outputs)to meet IFRS reporting requirements

Finance System Support

As part of the Actuarial systems team you may be called upon to aid in the provision of Finance Operational services including:

• Actuarial System incidence management and resolution
• Support and train for Actuarial System end users
• Manage the availability, capacity and performance of Actuarial Systems
• Maintain security and access procedures and conducting periodic reviews

This role is ideally suited for that candidate who is looking to take the next step in their career and has Head of Tax in their sights. Senior Tax Manager roles in TAL are required to be able to work across all portfolios and tax subject areas and should expect to work across various of these from time to time. However, each role will have a key point of focus and provide back up to other areas.

The Senior Tax Manager - Indirect Tax, in TAL acts as a trusted partner to leaders across the TAL business, accountable for providing accurate, complete and timely advice that deliver commercially sound, and compliant, solutions which focus on Indirect tax matters. This role is key in driving compliant outcomes with our key stakeholders and influencing commercial initiatives. The role requires the individual to take accountability for setting compliant requirements that other areas maybe required to meets these requirements. The role then requires the individual to take accountability for auditing compliance against the requirements and influencing areas outside of the tax function to take accountability for the execution of the requirements.

Incumbents in this role use their professional knowledge to deliver high impact advice across Finance, and TAL more broadly, and are expected to provide advice on the achievement of key commercial objectives, providing advice that influences commercial decisions that TAL needs to address which focus on Indirect tax matters.

The Senior Tax Manager -Indirect Tax role ensures:

• All Indirect tax matters relating to the TDA Tax group are dealt with in accordance with the law and are accurately recorded and reported,
• Indirect tax impacts upon customers and policyholders are accurate and correct,
• Implications of new tax laws and other compliance requirements are understood, planned for and implemented and business leaders are aware of their obligations in relation to these
• TAL is well represented in relevant external bodies and with associated regulatory and other compliance bodies.

The Senior Tax Manager - Indirect tax, is also accountable for ensuring the implementation of policies, processes, calculations, models, procedures, and compliance obligations, especially in respect of governance, risk management and documentation relevant to all TAL Business Units. The role ensures the provision of accurate and timely advice to the business and developing and enhancing relationships with stakeholders throughout TAL and with external parties, such as the ATO and State Revenue Authorities. The Senior Tax Manager - Indirect tax is accountable for enhancing existing processes and continually improving the level of support provided to the TAL business with a particular focus on various strategic programs focusing on Indirect tax matters. This role is expected to oversee the work of the Tax Analysts, and other junior staff who may support Tax from time to time, who support the deliverables of the Tax Team, providing coaching and training as required to ensure the capability development of all team members.

Key Accountabilities:

Business (revenue) related tax accountabilities:

• Manage tax risk end to end throughout the Business in accordance with the TAL Risk Governance Framework as it relates to Indirect tax.
• Be responsible for and accountable for setting requirements for the business to execute that are designed to ensure compliance against tax law. This means not providing interpretations of the law but rather gain an understanding commercial and operational process and based on these facts provide the business with purpose-built requirements that when executed will ensure compliance with the law. The role is then required to update these requirements as regulations change
• Ensure the TAL Group has robust systems, processes and controls in place to meet all regulatory and customer tax compliance obligations
• Advise and partner with TAL Business Unit leaders on matters such as:
  • Goods & Services Tax
  • Stamp Duty
  • Fringe Benefits Tax
  • Advisory support in relation to various Payroll initiatives including but not limited to State Tax changes and global mobility proposals.
  • New product set up and ensuring efficient and compliance tax outcomes are considered.
• Drive indirect tax outcomes, particularly in relation to duty, when it comes to new products strategic developments. You will be seen as a key stakeholder that is capable of having discussions and leading implementation efforts in this regard. You will be able to work autonomously and escalate where required.
• Active engagement with key Regulators to ensure TAL is compliant and is operating within its Tax Risk Governance Framework. You will be able to drive audit engagements and feel confident to have hold such discussions independently.
• Explain the tax position to internal and external stakeholders, at all levels, and show a clear means of substantiating the position. Your advice will be able to be easily understood and implemented.

• Provide accurate, complete and timely tax advice and services on a range of topics in support of commercial decisions with a focus on Indirect taxes

Corporate related tax accountabilities:

We have a newly created opportunity available in our Retirement and Wealth business as a Retirement Growth Manager. Reporting to the General Manager, Retirement and Wealth you will be responsible for developing deep relationships with new and existing partners to TAL as well as consultants and other market participants.

This is a client facing role with key stakeholder management and relationship building accountabilities. You will play a critical role in proactively and effectively managing the delivery of high-quality engagement to our prospects and other market players.

In this role you will: 

• Deeply understand TAL’s strategy and retirement proposition in the industry
• Tailor and showcase TAL capabilities, proposition, and people to audiences/funds depending on their needs and objectives
• Proactively identify and build relationships with new retirement and investment opportunities in the industry fund and retail/platforms segments

Overview of the role:

To manage balance sheet risks and maximise the value of our investment assets, TAL is expanding its investment capabilities including the implementation of a new Target Operating Model. This is an exciting role, offering the ability to build capability, shape outcomes and add significant value. The role will work closely with the Head of Investments (general account) & ALM and be responsible for investment strategy and portfolio management. The focus will be rates and credit investments and will require a strong understanding of asset-liability management and life insurance regulatory capital standards.

We have a Senior Commercial Analyst opportunity available within our Performance and Expense Management team which sits within our Finance business unit. Reporting to the Senior Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for partnering with our Information Technology, Continuous Delivery and Strategic Initiatives teams to provide reporting, communicating expense results and creating actionable insights.

Additionally, this role is heavily involved in the annual expense budget process, working with business stakeholders to build out expense budgets and operationalise this.

This is a 12-month fixed term contract, working flexibly from our Sydney office.

In this role you will: 

• Take ownership of expense planning, budgeting, forecasting and other processes as appropriate.
• Assist with the delivery in terms of the Expense Framework which governs planning, forecasting, accounting, reporting, and analysis.
• Assist with partnering of Executives and Senior Leaders to influence and provide direction for the appropriate expense targets and goals for TAL, as part of the planning and forecasting process.
• Assist with the production of month-end expense reporting and analytics, including targets, productivity metrics and insights.
• Provide commercial insight and advisory on activities including business case development.
• Assist with month-end expense meetings with stakeholders to provide analysis, identify opportunities and strategies to mitigate risks as appropriate.
• Contribute towards short and long-term enterprise expense planning including stakeholder management during the planning cycle, co-ordination of inputs and analysis.

The Claims Technical Specialist is responsible for providing technical advice, guidance and support to the Claims team on technical assessment and case management matters, to assist in reaching desired claims durations and outcomes in line with the terms and conditions of the policy.

A key focus of the role is to optimise assessment quality within the Income Protection, Life, Trauma and TPD portfolios and support Claims Managers to build their capability in line with the TAL claims capability and delegated authority frameworks. 

• Contribute towards a culture of process improvement. Along with the Team Manager, ensure that change initiatives are embedded and that best practices are adopted, while ensuring a best practice approach to claims handling
• Contribute to department and company projects as required.

Technical Support

• Act as a subject matter expert, responding to Claims Consultant requests and enquiries and to authorise and review claims (and associated benefits payments)
• Provide adverse decision review and sign off on assessment, which may require referral to internal Claims review body
• Support Claims Consultants to use effective communication with customers, treating health practitioners and other stakeholders to drive the best service experience and appropriate claim outcomes for the customer
• Support Client Managers and Team Managers in their reporting to funds and attendance at fund meetings/case conferences related to technical claim outcomes as required
• Development/ enhancement of claims handling procedures and guidelines as required. Assist with embedment
• Review, advise and sign off (within delegation) on policy T&Cs within internal forums, communicating the outcome of approved policy T&Cs within team to ensure understanding/application

Team Capability

• Drive processes to support development of technical capability within claims and implement strategies lto develop technical skills in line with the TAL claims capability framework resulting in progression of delegated authorities in a timely manner
• Coaching Claims Consultants in appropriately executing assessment practices ensuring the timely and quality management of claims. Including completing ‘above delegation’ and ‘within delegation’ reviews of individuals work and recording outcomes and opportunities for development 
• Provide insights into Case Manager technical capabilities for the purpose of performance management and support the Team Manager in development planning for individuals to uplift their capability in line with TAL’s capability framework.

Compliance

The Senior Cyber Analyst is part of Third-Party Tech & Cyber Risk, which is part of the Technology & Cyber Risk function within the Technology Business Unit. This role will support the manager in aligning to the strategy and execution of our third-party technology risk management, third party cyber security management, relevant technology and cyber clauses within the contractual management process and overall governance of technology third parties. This role is responsible for adhering to and identifying improvements to relevant frameworks, policies, practices and controls to maintain the risk posture within the appetite.

• Adhere to the Third-Party Technology & Cyber Risk Management Framework and support the delivery of associated strategy, target state roadmap, and supporting processes and procedures.
• Conduct in-depth risk assessments and due diligence on potential and existing third-parties to identify risks and compliance gaps.
• Engage third-parties based on the non-compliance and potential cyber security issues identified via continuous passive security posture management technologies. Conduct risk assessments and develop a plan with the third-parties to remediate non-compliance and/or potential security issues.
• Establish and maintain the governance structure for ongoing management of third-party relationships, including regular performance and compliance reviews.
• Collaborate with all technology teams to embed effective vendor management practices aligned to the TAL Procurement Procedure and Vendor Management Model.
• Identifying potential areas for improvement for vendor governance, enhancement and upgrade by maintaining a good working knowledge of all services provided to TAL business units.

• Support and assist with the negotiation, implementation, and management of technology and cyber clauses in the third-party contracts with the Legal. Uplift those technology and cyber clauses in the contractual terms in line with regulatory and threat environment changes, as needed.

The Senior Consultant Technology and Cyber Risk will be part of the Technology & Cyber Risk function within the Technology Business Unit and will lead the strategy and execution of Risk Management activities. This role is responsible for ensuring the Technology risk posture remains within TAL’s appetite by overseeing and executing Line 1 Risk management activities and consulting with a variety of stakeholders across Technology and the Business.

Key Accountabilities:

• Provide input into TAL’s Technology Risk Management strategy and yearly plan of activities.
• Risk Management advice and support across all of TAL’s Technology platforms.
• Contribute to the development of the controls assurance plan and perform controls assurance over critical controls
• Deliver reporting to TAL’s Technology Leadership team, Risk Office and Board to represent Risk Indicators and significant events that may shift the risk profile. Coordinate activities to complete all reporting requirements by obtaining updates from General Management and the Risk function on risk posture and culture.
• Management of risk remediation activities and reporting of approaching and overdue actions.
• Oversight and management of Incident Management for events that have an external impact to TAL’s customers or partners and support for reportable situations.
• Risk in Change assessments for significant implementations, Cloud workloads, and AI use cases to ensure solutions remain within TAL’s risk appetite and controls.
