Sodexo are currently seeking a dynamic and highly experienced Employee & Industrial Relations leader. Australia is a key global market for Sodexo and the General Manager – Employee & Industrial Relations will play a critical role in supporting and driving employee engagement, labour efficiencies and legal compliance across the business.

This role reports to the HR Director – Australia and plays a vital role in partnering strategically with, and providing ER/IR guidance to, our leadership team (including site based) across our Australian business.

Job Scope:
A key focus of this role is to work hand in hand with our business leaders and HR team to ensure that all parties are aligned and working towards enabling a positive and safe workplace environment and compliance with employment law, regulations, relevant Awards and Enterprise Agreements

Requirements of the role will include but are not limited to:

Provide ER/IR leadership by

• Providing pragmatic and effective solutions and actions to address and resolve workplace issues, including disputes, grievances workplace incidents, to maintain a positive and productive safe, equitable and inclusive work environment
• Leading the enterprise bargaining processes including preparation, planning, engagement, and implementation. Ensuring the outcome is fair, compliant, and beneficial to both the company and its employees;
• Ensuring compliance with relevant industrial agreements and employment laws, providing guidance and oversight to management and HR teams;
• Fostering positive relationships between management, employees, and unions by promoting open communication and collaborative problem-solving;
• Supporting HRBPs in implementing employee relations initiatives and strategies that enhance workforce engagement, performance, and overall organizational effectiveness.
• Primary contact for client representatives in relation to employee and industrial relations issues, strategies, and challenges
• Represent the business in relevant Tribunals (and Courts, if necessary) regarding employee and industrial relations matters, and case management of significant projects and matters, as assigned.
• Provide SME leadership in the development and implementation of industrial relations strategies and plans.
• Work with the business development team to develop industrial relations solutions and documents for tenders, contracts and other opportunities
• Work closely with internal legal counsel on managing regulatory issues, audits and compliance measures.
• Managing, where required, complex workplace matters (investigations, inquiries, or disputes) and develop/oversee compliance programs.

Job Description

Ensure all project and maintenance activity is implemented for the assigned area as per the Scope of Work, according to the manufacturers/suppliers recommendations, local legislation and the relevant Australian Standards whilst meeting budget.

• Provide on-site Technical Electrical Engineering Support to FM Operations teams as required.
• Working with Operations Technicians to facilitate HVAC Best practice standards by supervising and training FM team members as necessary.
• Monitor Maintenance and Inspection Plans, provides guidance and recommendations on Trends to support operations and Assets at the lowest practical cost.
• Monitor industry HVAC best principals for innovation and cost effectiveness and make necessary recommendations for application to the IFMS contract.
• Ensure that all personnel present on projects or within work areas have completed all site inductions, pre-employment briefings, on-the-job training and external training required to do their work, as well as possess the necessary licenses and certification.
• Implement standardized project process / procedures to ensure all works are completed on schedule, within budget.
• Ensure completion of site and contractor works are achieved in accordance with the planned schedule for the portfolio.
• Adopt preventive maintenance strategies to minimize the level of unscheduled events. 
• Manage the execution of approved asset management plans and operational practices to provide reliable and predictable performance for the designated portfolio of assets.
• Monitor and manage all subcontracted services to ensure operational KPI’s are achieved.
• Embed best practice implementation of works programs using lean principles
• Report all incidents, near hits, procedure deficiencies and poor working conditions to the immediate manager and HSEQ personnel.
• Ensure responses to unplanned events and emergencies are prompt and managed professionally, with issues resolved in line with risk allocations if practically possible and improvements, driven forward to prevent future issues.
• Proactively look for ways to assist and improve the business including processes and projects
• Participate in client meetings as required
• Carry out site inspections for new work and relay relevant information to the estimator for quoting
• Be proactive in following up techs and suppliers

Reporting to the HR Director, the Facilities Manager is instrumental in ensuring that Sodexo’s Corporate support centre operates seamlessly and optimally whilst enhancing the overall experience for our employees.  With free parking onsite, our corporate office is the hub for our operational support staff. Within our corporate facility that can accommodate up to 300 employees we also have an onsite café, command centre, stores, in-house induction facilities, wellness room and onsite gym.

This position encompasses a broad range of responsibilities including;  

• Managing a team of 5 direct reports who work across our onsite café, reception and office utilities areas
• Oversee reactive and preventative maintenance activities, including flexibility to respond to security incidents outside of office hours
• Manage budgets, contracts, and negotiations with vendors and contractors, ensuring strict compliance with Sodexo OH&S practices
• Implement and maintain effective facility management systems, policies, and procedures to streamline operations and enhance efficiency
• Coordinate and direct facility projects, including renovations and upgrades ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
• Organize major yearly events and monthly minor events, fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace culture
• Facilitate Monthly Business Updates and online office bulletins, keeping employees informed about important employee offerings and office updates

About you

You will be a self starter who values safety, innovation and managing an optimal standard of corporate facility management.

To succeed in this position you will require;

• Proven experience in corporate facility management across varied soft and hard services
• A qualification in Facilities Management, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Team management experience, including training and managing team deliverables
• Strong knowledge of building systems, equipment, and maintenance practices, including strong legislative and compliance knowledge
• Exceptional communication skills to build relationships with external and internal key stakeholders
• Experience providing office services or improvements that enhance employee experience in the workplace

The successful applicant will be a self-motivated, highly organised professional with strong communication skills, who can collaboratively work with the Project Team to undertake ongoing analysis on costs, revenue, and profit per project, prepare monthly billing files, and coordinate purchase requisitions (purchase orders) and invoice payments for subcontractor services.
