Job Summary:
The Lead Functional Safety Engineer will lead and execute the functional safety activities for our company's products and systems to ensure our products meet the required safety standards and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute the functional safety lifecycle activities, including hazard analysis, risk assessment, safety requirements specification, design, implementation, verification, and validation.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including systems engineering, hardware, software, V&V and quality assurance, to ensure safety requirements are appropriately implemented and validated.
- Conduct safety analyses, such as FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, DFA and FMEDA, to identify potential hazards and develop mitigation strategies.
- Develop and implement functional safety strategies and plans following industry standards such as ISO 26262 and IEC 61508.
- Develop and maintain functional safety documentation, including safety plans, Safety case reports, and manuals.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to functional safety engineers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and best practices.
- Stay current with the latest functional safety standards, regulations, and industry trends, and ensure our processes and practices remain compliant.
- Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and certification bodies to ensure that our products meet their safety requirements and expectations.
- Participate in safety audits and assessments and drive corrective actions to address any identified gaps or non-conformances.
- Define and improve safety processes, methodologies, and tools to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of our functional safety activities and ensure continuous improvement.
- Support the functional safety manager in carrying out the Confirmation Measures per ISO 26262 (Confirmation Reviews, Safety Audit, and Safety Assessment)
- Be flexible to travel overseas on occasion.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in functional safety engineering
- At least five years of experience in safety-critical automotive systems
- Strong knowledge of functional safety standards, such as ISO 26262, IEC 61508.
- Proven experience conducting safety analyses, such as FMEA, FTA, HAZOP, DFA and FMEDA.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify and mitigate potential safety risks.
- Experience with requirement tools - Polarion or DOORs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- The ability to adapt to changing schedules.
- The capability to work independently in an organised and structured fashion
- Certification in functional safety, such as Certified Functional Safety Expert (CFSE) or Certified Functional Safety Professional (CFSP), is a plus.
