About the Role:
As the Senior Originator, you will be responsible for leading the negotiation of both long term and short term commercial agreements for gas supply, transportation and storage products and services. Support may be required occasionally with power and environmental transactions. These transactions will align with AGL’s wholesale portfolio value and risk management objectives and contribute to our Climate Transition Action Plan. Origination combines a broad range of skills across business development, negotiation, commercial, project development, corporate finance and critical analysis of market dynamics. Transactions will involved buying and selling of commodities through both physical and derivative agreements, with deal sizes up to $2B and durations of up to 15 years.
What you’ll be doing:
- Originating transactions to manage the physical gas portfolio over the short to medium term
- Lead contract negotiations relating to gas supplies, gas transportation, storage products and various other services
- Managing relationships with major gas producers, haulage / storage operators and market operators
- Providing guidance to other teams within Integrated Energy, Trading and Treasury Risk, Corporate Development and Finance in relation to origination activities, including influencing and collaborating across business units
- Lead complex and bespoke negotiations, document transactions and implementation of commercial arrangements across sale, supply, transport and LNG import (if required). Typical transactions will range from $30m to $1B.
- Develop business cases to support transactions with the support of the analytical team
- Managing supply agreements existing in the portfolio, including establishing processes to enforce contract specifications and resolve conflict where breaches or non-compliance occur.
- Utilise your working knowledge of the industry and provide assessments of future gas supply options and their benefit to the gas portfolio
- Support may be required occasionally with power and carbon transactions.
About You:
You will ideally have an existing network of strong relationships and a deep understanding of the gas markets and contracting arrangements through your extensive experience in the commercial gas sector.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- Tertiary qualifications in Law, Finance, Engineering or another quantitative discipline
- Experience leading large complex negotiations in the gas, LNG and project development
- The ability to build and maintain strong internal and external relationships at all levels
- Experience developing strategies to balance risk and return and reduce procurement costs
- The ability to understand complex analytical concepts
- Advanced communication, interpersonal, influencing and negotiation skills
- Advanced knowledge and experience in the energy and wholesale gas market and risk management
- Extensive negotiation, contract development and contract management experience
