The RBA is seeking a PhD or highly experienced research Economist for the position of Research Manager in the Bank’s Research Department in Sydney, Australia starting in the second half of 2024 (or earlier if preferred). As a Research Manager you will focus on conducting and publishing self-directed, policy-oriented research (https://www.rba.gov.au/publications/rdp/about.html) and providing advice on policy issues alongside our team of researchers. You will also be responsible for developing and managing junior staff on research projects/
The position features significant autonomy in conducting policy-relevant analysis related to the Bank’s research agenda (https://www.rba.gov.au/research/priorities/). As such, it offers the opportunity to make a real and tangible impact on economic policy and the welfare of the Australian people, while also providing a stimulating environment to undertake research using cutting-edge data and techniques. This includes the potential to work with world-leading administrative micro-datasets on workers and businesses for both macro and micro analysis, and to engage with the academic community as well as other research institutions including in the Australian Public Service.
• A PhD in Economics with focus on monetary policy, macroeconomics or applied micro-econometrics is highly desirable.
• Policy-focused research experience and an interest in the use of microdata in answering macroeconomic questions is also highly desirable.
• Candidates must demonstrate strong technical, analytical, and written and oral communication skills.
• Resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to debate and influence via their research and provide advice on a range of issues are also highly desirable, as is the ability to train and supervise junior researchers.
