Job description
We are currently seeking experienced Communications technicians to work on various commercial projects within the Southwest Region.
The position would suit someone with a proven track record in the commercial & construction industry who enjoys the challenge of seeing a project through from conception to completion.
You will work closely with Senior Management to make data-driven decisions that contribute to the financial health and growth of the company.
THE OPPORTUNITY
About the Role and the duties
• Review technical drawings, plans, and job sites to determine the optimal placement and connection points for cabling and equipment.
• Diagnose issues in telecommunications systems using specialized testing tools such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and other diagnostic devices.
• Secure wiring and cables to the appropriate devices, ensuring all connections are safe and compliant with industry standards.
• Perform repairs, replace faulty components, and thoroughly test equipment using electronic diagnostic instruments.
• Lay down cables for various communication systems including telephones, radios, and computer networks, ensuring all installations are conducted efficiently and safely.
• Join and seal cables to protect them from environmental factors, using thermoplastic or lead sealing methods.
• Erect, inspect, and maintain both overhead and underground cables, as well as install antennas for radio and mobile phone services.
• Install telecommunications devices such as telephones, data transmission equipment, and switchboards for residential and commercial use.
THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT
• Minimum Requirement: AQF Certificate IV or equivalent with at least two years of relevant on-the-job experience in telecommunications or data cabling.
• Preferred: A relevant Bachelor's degree or higher, such as a Master's degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Computing Network, or a related field, is highly recommended and will be considered favourably.
• Experience: Practical experience in telecommunications cabling Fiber or related fields is essential.
• Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret technical plans and diagrams. Proficient in using testing tools to identify and resolve issues.
• Attention to Detail: Strong attention to detail and adherence to industry safety standards.
• Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving abilities and experience using testing and diagnostic tools.
