Your new company This well known Federal Government department based in the heart of Canberra is seeking an APS6 Senior Policy/Secretariat Officer to join their section due to a recent restructure. Your new section undertakes governance, oversight, and engagement activities in relation to aviation portfolio agencies. Their goal is to ensure their operations align with the government's aviation policies and legislation. Your new section also provides strategic policy advice to the Minister and secretariat support for various high-level meetings. Your new role As the APS6 Senior Policy/Secretariat Officer, you will support your team in ensuring the aviation agencies perform their roles in line with government policy and legislation, and meet the expectations of the aviation sector and the Australian community. Your key duties will include coordinating advice on Board appointments, reviewing agency reports, maintaining stakeholder relationships, preparing ministerial and parliamentary documents, providing secretariat services, and assisting with ad hoc tasks. What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this position, you will have previous experience in a similar position and the Federal Government. You will also demonstrate drive and resilience when dealing with ambiguity, the ability to balance competing priorities and meet deadlines, strong communication and strategic thinking skills, the ability to investigate issues, gather evidence, and think critically, effective collaboration skills and the ability to use judgement and skills to add value and proficiency in written and verbal communication, particularly in preparing high-quality advice to Ministers and departmental Executives.
Experience in governance processes, financial analysis and/or stakeholder coordination and engagement is desirable but not essential.
To be considered for this role, you will need to be an Australian citizen and have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance at the Baseline level or higher.
