The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Energy Services Operations team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Plant Technician. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

Being a part of a cross-functional team, you’ll be responsible for a variety of tasks and Boiler and Turbine Attendants duties. These tasks include rounds, monitoring, daily routine inspections, performance tests, on-site troubleshooting, cleaning, plant set-up, isolation, startups, and overhaul work. You’ll ensure streamlined communication within the team, as well as respond to any emergencies and alarms. You’ll contribute to the teams success and ensure we are meeting customer requirements, with a strong focus on safety and the environment.

This opportunity supports a 7 day, 12-hour day shift.

What Will You Do?

Sharing your knowledge and providing technical guidance to the Energy Services Operations and Asset Development teams, you will:

• successfully contribute to a safe working environment
• ensure equipment is available as required to enable department Controllers to deliver energy and process streams to customers and maximize energy efficiency
• review and report on the performance and condition of the equipment
• collaborate with cross functional teams about plant and equipment issues
• proactively supporting the team with any ancillary work and any additional support when directed by the Operations Coordinators

We are currently on the lookout for a Maintenance Services Assistant to become a part of our team on a casual basis. This position is located at our Alcheringa home in Swan Hill, Victoria.

Our organisation is constantly growing, with many homes and thousands of residents and employees across Victoria, New south Wales and Tasmania. Respect also has home care services in multiple states, and more than 700 units in different retirement villages and independent living communities.

The Maintenance Services Assistant is responsible for implementing, coordinating, monitoring and evaluating an efficient and effective preventative and corrective maintenance program for buildings, equipment, and grounds at their residential aged care home and/or retirement village.

Key Duties:

• Ensure buildings and public areas, including grounds, are maintained to a safe, high-quality standard.
• Perform general maintenance tasks ensuring that facilities are safe, to standard and in good working order.
• Perform garden maintenance tasks ensuring garden beds, pathways and outdoor seating areas are safe, clean and free from debris, and that plants are watered.
• Maintain records of the maintenance and gardening programs.
• Ensure adequate stock items for regular corrective maintenance and gardening tasks.
• Assist in the maintenance of an accurate and up to date asset register.
• Contribute to refurbishment, equipment replacement and capital works planning.
• Identify preventative maintenance requirements and document a schedule for same.
• Ensure preventative maintenance and corrective action according to legal requirements and documented schedule, including requirements for essential services.
• Oversee external contract agreements, as required.
• Ensure vehicles at the facility are kept clean and tidy and are serviced in accordance with the service maintenance schedule.
• Perform on-call service (where applicable) when not on duty as directed by Respect.
• Any other task not defined but within the employees' skills, as directed by Respect.

Essential:

• General maintenance and gardening skills.
• Current Drivers License.
• Current National Police Certificate (or ability to acquire).
  

Desirable:

• Knowledge or experience in establishing and coordinating a maintenance program.
• Experience in maintenance and horticulture management.
• An accredited trade certificate relevant to the position.
• Experience in residential aged care or similar business.

• General maintenance and gardening skills.
• Current Driver's License.
• Current National Police Certificate (or ability to acquire).
• Knowledge or experience in establishing and coordinating a maintenance program.
• An accredited trade certificate relevant to the position.

Selection Criteria 

• The ability to work both unsupervised and as part of a team and liaise effectively and professionally with residents, staff, visitors, suppliers and their representatives.
• Experience in the safe operation and maintenance of medium complexity mechanical plant.
• Experience in chemical handling and application practice.
• Understanding of quality control processes, materials and equipment cost estimating.
• Experience in landscape construction and grounds maintenance.
