CP SOC works collaboratively with the Defence Security Operations Centre (DSOC) to assist in defending one of the largest and most complex ICT networks in the southern hemisphere.

We are seeking an experienced Cyber Security Analyst to join our team member to achieve Defence mission outcomes.

This is a permanent role that requires the successful applicant to working on a rotating shift roster (typically 12 hour shifts) onsite at HMAS Harman in Canberra.

As a Cyber Security Analyst, working within a 24/7 Security Operations team, you will monitor networks and endpoints for security events, alerts, active threats, intrusions and compromises and perform triage.  Depending on the issue you may manage the event end to end, consult with your peers or escalate as appropriate.

• Analysis of security events from multiple sources including but not limited to events from the Security Information and Event Management tool, network intrusion systems and Host based Intrusion Prevention tools (AV, HIPS, Application Whitelisting);
• Monitor and assess emerging threats and vulnerabilities to the environment and ensure those requiring action are addressed;
• Security Incident Management, advice and education and maintaining the currency and health of the deployed security tools;
• Provide technical administration support for security suite of software and hardware;
• Produce contractual and stakeholder reports and review, document and improve processes to contribute to the overall security of the environment.
• Develop your leadership skills, and within the broader team, to meet mission and contractual outcomes
• Working collaboratively with stakeholders to triage, manage and report on security incidents,
• Build relationships with stakeholders
• Actively develop SOC tactics, techniques and procedures (TTP’s) and security toolsets
• Develop custom signatures to Identify, Detect, Protect, Respond and Recover from adversary’s attacks.
• Undertake Incident Reposponse activities using known adversary TTP’s and Indicators of Compromise (IOC’s) to detect advanced threats.
• Undertake Incident report writing development of security operational documentation

This position as a SOC Senior Security Operations Analyst will see you leading a 24/7 Monitoring, Detection and Response teams. Responsible for leading, mentoring and providing the conduct of initial triage management and recommending actions to resolve incidents with minimal guidance.

Reporting directly to Senior Security Operations Lead, you will have the opportunity to help shape and develop our high-performing MDR team as they conduct their vital function in protecting critical Defence systems.

The role requires someone who is comfortable with some ambiguity, and is comfortable making decisions with limited oversight, as well as collaborating and engaging positively with other service providers and multiple areas of Defence.

The SOC is a 24x7x365 operation, operating multiple MDR shift teams across a rotating shift roster. This role will require you to encourage and lead a SOC MDR shift team, work closely with internal SOC teams and engaging with cross-functional teams on regular occasions in supporting our customer in their mission. You will also have additional tasks providing recommendations and working with Cyber Threat Intelligence, Threat Hunt and Threat detection Analyst for process and control improvements within the SOC.

Your New Role 

As a Cyber Security Risk Analyst Lead, you will be responsible for conducting proactive risk management activities including the delivery of high-quality, comprehensive risk assessments, discovery and analysis, as well as tracking and reporting. This is an interesting role with broad responsibilities and scope that will allow you to test and hone your skills, whilst contributing to National Security, your responsibilities will include the following; 

• Lead and undertake the timely delivery of cyber security risk analysis and advisory services to stakeholders and the broader team. 
• Prioritisation and presentation of identified risks and recommendations at the relevant forums. 
• Proactive maintenance of the risk register and tracking of risk response progress. 
• Ongoing oversight, measuring, and monitoring of security risk across multiple complex environments. 
• Evaluation of the effectiveness of security controls against the Australian Government ISM, Essential 8, NIST, other approved cyber security frameworks, and standard designs. 
• Development and submission of high-quality artefacts including risk assessments and reports.
