Tuff Tyres are currently looking to recruit an experienced and qualified Motor Mechanic to join their team in Cairns QLD 4870.
As a Motor Mechanic at Tuff Tyres, you will play a crucial role in repairing, maintaining, and testing motor vehicles and other internal combustion engines, along with their related mechanical components. Working closely with our service team, you will ensure that vehicles are serviced to meet their tyre and mechanical requirements. In this role, maintaining equipment and strictly adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines is essential to providing a safe and efficient work environment for everyone.
The successful candidates will need to undertake and possess:
Day to Day tasks:
- Detecting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults in engines and parts
- Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts
- Repairing and replacing worn and defective parts and reassembling mechanical components, and referring to service manuals as needed
- Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations
- Reassembling engines and parts after being repaired
- Testing and adjusting mechanical parts after being repaired for proper performance
- Diagnosing and testing parts with the assistance of computers
- May inspect vehicles and issue roadworthiness certificates or detail work required to achieve roadworthiness
- May respond to vehicle breakdown service calls
- Fit passenger, truck and ag tyres as per fitting schedule allocated by your manager.
- Inspecting tyres to determine which repair action to implement and repairing punctures in tubes and tubeless tyres
- Operating air driven equipment to remove and refit tyres and tubes on vehicles
- Balancing wheels and tyres using static and electronic equipment
Team Work:
- Open lines of communication with management and fellow co-workers.
- Report all near miss / accidents or damaged to plant / stock immediately to Management.
- Be willing and able to work within a team to achieve set targets
- Be prepared to multi-skill, i.e. job rotation “throughout the various service functions”
- Have a continuous improvement attitude, “constantly looking for better ways to do things”.
- Be responsible for cleanliness and tidiness in the service area
- Assist in the training of other personnel as required.
- Fulfil other tasks / duties as required by Management.
Environmental Health & Safety Responsibilities:
It is an important part of your job responsibilities to be familiar with and to comply with all EHS requirements as directed by Tuff Tyres Management.
- Identify potential hazards and assess the risks of the hazards prior to commencing a job. Take action to control the risk where possible or report to the supervisor where the risk is beyond the individuals’ control.
- Report all incidents immediately, even if considered minor, to the supervisor. Provide input to incident investigations and, if necessary, cooperate with return to work plans following injury.

Salary range is $70,000 - $85,000pa commensurate with experience
