The Client:
Samaras Structural Engineers is one of Australia's premier privately owned, multi-disciplinary heavy engineering and construction services company. They are highly experienced in delivering landmark venue structures, complex curved architectural steelwork and logistically challenging projects. The position is located at Gillman, South Australia.
They seek an experienced Welder to join their team.
The Role:
It is for a full-time role with an annual salary between $73,500 to $80,000, depending on experience plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities:
Review and interpret engineering drawings, and specifications to determine the exact dimensions, materials, and fabrication methods required for each project.
Identify and select the appropriate metal materials, ensuring compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning, grinding, and removing rust or impurities to ensure optimal adhesion and quality in fabrication and welding.
Utilize hand tools, flame cutting torches, and precision metal cutting machinery to shape and cut metal sections to required dimensions with high accuracy.
Precisely align, fit, and secure metal parts before welding or bolting, ensuring accurate assembly as per the design and project requirements.
Employ a variety of welding techniques (e.g., MIG and arc welding) to join metal sections, ensuring strong, durable welds that meet structural and safety standards.
Inspect welds and metal fabrications for quality, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards, and that the work is free of defects such as cracks or misalignments.
Polish, clean, and file fabricated metal structures, removing rough edges and ensuring that surfaces are smooth and meet project aesthetic or technical requirements.
Perform maintenance, repairs, and modifications on existing metal structures as required by project demands.
Adhere to workplace safety regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of tools and machinery
The Requirements:
At least Cert III in Fabrication/Welding or equivalent
At least 2 years of professional experience in a commercial setting
At least 2 years MIG welding on site experience
At least 2 years’ experience with the three main types of welding:
Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW)
Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
Flux-cored Arc Welding (FCAW)
Strong knowledge of all types of welding processes
Ability to efficiently read and interpret drawings
Sound knowledge and ability to competently use hand, air and power tools
Possess a can-do attitude and excellent time management
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
