Position Overview
We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Cabler (Data and Telecommunications) to join our growing team. The successful candidate will contribute to the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications cabling systems. This role is vital to ensuring the functionality and reliability of data and telecommunications networks.
Key Responsibilities
As a Cabler (Data and Telecommunications), you will be responsible for:
• Examine blueprints, diagrams, and project specifications to determine the positioning, routing, and connections for cabling systems and telecommunications equipment.
• Identify and locate malfunctions in telecommunications equipment using tools such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, ammeters, and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR).
• Install, join, and secure telecommunications cables for services such as telephone, radio, pay TV, and data transmission, ensuring compliance with industry and safety standards.
• Perform testing, integration, and configuration of installed equipment, such as Network Termination Devices (NTDs) and Business Network Termination Devices (BNTDs), using electronic instruments and diagnostic tools.
• Carry out related civil works, including pit and pipe installation, trenching, directional drilling, and reinstatement, to support the deployment of telecommunications infrastructure.
• Install, maintain, and repair aerial and underground wires and cables, ensuring the stability and reliability of the network.
• Splice fibre optic cables (both single and ribbon), seal cable sheaths using thermoplastic materials, and ensure durability and insulation integrity.
• Install telecommunications devices and systems, including telephones, switchboards, and data communication hardware, in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
• Implement quality control measures to ensure installed systems meet regulatory and operational standards, minimizing downtime and enhancing network reliability.
• Adhere to occupational health and safety requirements, maintain accurate records of installations and repairs, and collaborate with other contractors to complete projects efficiently and within budget.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 3 years’ experience in telecommunications cabling or a related field.
• Relevant qualifications or experience in structured and optical fiber cabling.
• Proficiency in locating faults, troubleshooting, and using electronic testing equipment.
• Knowledge of telecommunications standards (e.g., AS/CA S009) and industry best practices.
• Hands-on experience with both fiber optic and copper cabling installations.
• The ability to read and interpret technical diagrams and specifications accurately.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
