We currently have an opportunity for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Maintenance and Engineering Team.
About the Role
Based in Bendigo, Victoria, reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this role will be responsible for timely maintenance and repair of on-site equipment and machinery to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations whilst adhering to the highest level of safety.
Key Job Elements and Responsibilities
• Conduct repairs and maintenance on a range of food manufacturing equipment.
• Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of industrial food production machinery plant & equipment maintenance.
• Demonstrate understanding of equipment disassembly and assembly with high levels of skill, servicing food grade conveyors and associated equipment in response to breakdown and preventative maintenance programs.
• Ensure equipment is maintained to the highest level to ensure business productivity.
• Carry out regular preventative maintenance and breakdown support.
• Coordinate resourcing so that immediate breakdown support is always available to the production team.
• Coordinate resourcing so that Preventative Maintenance tasks can be completed during unscheduled production times.
• Accurately document works undertaken, parts consumed and required, probable causes for failures / breakdowns, suggested solution(s) to prevent recurrence.
• Work with minimal supervision and carry out assigned work orders.
• Assist in project work as required.
• Full compliance at all times with food manufacturing GMP, HACCP and associated requirements for the engineering function.
• Propose improvements to safety, quality, service, and cost where applicable.
• Actively promote and lead site Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and practices.
• Demonstrate visible safe working practices, manage risk, and report hazards.
• Contribute to a positive and collaborative organisational culture.
Competencies and Skills Required
• Bachelor’s degree of Mechanical Engineering or Diploma of Engineering in a Mechanical discipline or equivalent.
• Diploma and or proficiency in maintenance and operation of high pressure process (HPP) equipment.
• Knowledge of OHS&E practices.
• Knowledge and experience of food industry standards, GMP and HACCP.
• Experience in food industry plant & equipment maintenance.
• Mechanical trade qualification.
• Multi-disciplined background experience (Highly desirable).
• High level of interpersonal problem-solving skills.
• A decisive and innovative self-starter.
• Sound judgement and an ability to troubleshoot machinery faults.
• Experience with FiiX or similar CMMS systems.
• Ability to analyse tasks & define priorities.
• Provide flexibility to meet the changing needs of a food industry business.
• Valid driver’s licence and own transport.
• Knowledge of formal continuous improvement methodologies (Lean, 6 -sigma or equivalent) is desirable.
