About the role?
The Senior Base Pilot will be responsible for the effective management, oversight, deployment and reporting of operations and training both within the Toll Uncrewed Systems (TUS) division and the clients that we service under our ReOC and externally. This position will work across the business not only with the RPAS operations and training teams, but also with our Helicopter and Fixed Wing operations whilst strongly contributing to project work. They will also play a strategic and operational role to ensure that the TUS operates smoothly, safely, and in line with our organisation's goals whilst adhering to Civil Aviation Safety Authorities various and complex regulations in which we operate. We are seeking individuals that are precise and meticulous with an unwavering commitment to operational safety by bringing exceptional skills ensuring that each mission is executed with the utmost safety and care. Job Responsibilities In this role you will be required to:
Manage and conduct a variety of RPAS flight operations and missions under the organisations ReOC IAW CASA CASR , MOS 101 and the organisations operations manuals, procedures and approvals
Ensure safety protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and emergency response plans are implemented and followed to mitigate risks and ensure the highest level of safety during all operations
Provide flight operations and mission planning subject matter expertise to existing and new business projects/programs
Validate flight approvals for internal operations, and training and external client operations as required
Be responsible for working with clients on compliance, audits, health checks and general compliance management
Advise and develop training, flight & mission documentation, approvals and instrument submissions (eg. SORA, BVLOS procedures, OONP, EVLOS, operating large RPAS)
Ensure ongoing operational compliance with the existing ReOC Operations manual and Operations library in accordance with CASA's CASR & MOS101 requirements and the organisations continuous improvement process
Assist in the implementation of operational updates, resources and materials for revised scope being amended or added to the ReOC in accordance with the CASA's CASR, CAO's ad MOS requirements
Actively identify new business opportunities and promote wider opportunities to existing clients
Develop collaborative working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders at all levels
Assist in maintenance and proof of concept test flights of RPAS under direct control or when directed by CMC or CRP
Provide quality feedback and guidance to other training and operational pilots in accordance with the organisations policy and procedures
Represent TUS at Safety systems meetings and comply with the Toll Aviation and TUS WHS & Safety Usage procedures for resources and equipment
Support, develop and deliver training on all levels from basic to speciality to customers or staff
Lead and mentor pilots and team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment that promotes skill enhancement and adherence to safety practices.
Oversee the planning and allocation of resources for flight operations, ensuring efficient use of equipment and personnel in line with mission requirements.
Qualifications To be successful in the role you will need the following:
Previous experience in a management or leadership role, ideally within flight operations
Subject matter excellence in CASA RPAS relevant Acts, Regulations and procedures, CASA Remote Pilot licencing, uncrewed aviation courses and RPAS endorsements
Subject matter excellence in RPAS types, ratings and specialist equipment used by the industry
Thorough understanding of CASA's MOS 101 and relevant RPAS documentation
Advanced demonstrated use and understanding of uncrewed systems software (Mission Planner, AVCRM, DJI Pilot, DJI Flight Hub, NAIPS, CASA Portals, Airdata, OZ Runways as primary examples)
Ability to establish and maintain effective support and rapport with personnel at all levels
Good attention to detail with high importance placed on accuracy
Able to prioritise and work well under pressure to meet strict deadlines
Have the following qualifications:
CASA Aeronautical Radio operators Certificate or Trainer endorsement
CASA Sub 25kg VTOL
CASA Sub 150kg Multi-rotor (T40 or T30 endorsement)
CASA Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) rating or Instrument rating (IREX)
150+ logged operational hours including flying at night
