Tanning Drum Operator - Trainee Role

Geelong Leather located in Culcairn (50km from Albury, 70km from Wagga Wagga) requires 2 shift workers for our Drum Department.
This role is instrumental to our operations in the processing of cattle hides to the wet blue leather stage.

What the role requires:
Forklift operating - load and unload trucks, load & offload hides in drums and hide preserving.
Operate various manual equipment - Pressure washer, pallet jack, hair screens.
Operate automated chemical dosing systems and equipment.
Chemical handling - measuring and dispensary, lifting of 20kg bags
Basic effluent treatment processes for Irrigation.
Maintain housekeeping standards.
Record keeping and
12-hour shifts on a 3-day rotating roster alternating between two weeks of day and two weeks of night shift (Includes rotated weekends and public holidays)

We are looking for Applicants who:
Have a passion for learning new tasks
Can operate a forklift with attachments (preferred but not essential)
Have good literacy and numeracy skills
Have great time management
Sound communication skills
Are physically fit for manual tasks
Can follow directions while working autonomously
Are capable of working rotating shifts
Have a valid driver's license and reliable transport
Must be currently living in Australia and have rights to work in Australia.

What we can offer:
Starting at a Trainee level Tanning Drum Operator, we offer the security of a Full-time position that pays above the current Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award, starting at a yearly income of $78,227 per annum. (does not include additional overtime, allowances or bonuses provided with this role). Annual leave, sick leave, and long service leave are also inclusive of the Full-time position as is superannuation.

As a Trainee, we will teach you all areas of the tanning process from raw hides and skins to wetblue leather as part of our buddy training system. All external training requirements will be paid for by Geelong Leather.

Opportunities for advancement in a fast-paced environment are readily available as you progress from trainee to skilled operator.

Prior to commencing:
A Pre-Employment Medical Functional is required and as part of the company's zero-tolerance policy for drugs and alcohol, you will be required to undergo Drug & Alcohol testing.

All employees must be vaccinated for Q Fever or willing to be.

Must provide workplace references.

This role will commence on Monday the 2nd of December 2024.
