Innisfail Bananas PTY LTD is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Banana Farm Worker to join our team in the beautiful tropical region of Innisfail, Queensland. The successful candidate will assist with various tasks involved in banana cultivation, from planting to harvesting and packing. This role requires an individual who is comfortable working outdoors in a tropical climate and has a strong work ethic to maintain high production standards.
Responsibilities:
• Planting banana suckers and maintaining nursery stock for new crops.
• Preparing land by clearing, tilling, and applying fertilizers to ensure healthy soil conditions.
• Operating and maintaining irrigation systems to ensure banana plants receive adequate water.
• Removing weeds and applying pesticides or organic treatments to control pests and diseases.
• Trimming dead leaves and supporting plants with stakes or ties as they grow.
• Cutting banana bunches at the right stage of maturity and transporting them to the packing area.
• Sorting bananas by size and quality, then packing them into boxes for shipment.
• Operating and maintaining farm machinery like tractors, harvesters, and irrigation systems.
• Following farm safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Tracking plant growth, harvest dates, pesticide use, and weather conditions to monitor crop health and yields.
Key requirements:
• Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy banana bunches, working outdoors in hot and humid conditions, and standing for long periods.
• Previous experience for at least one year in farming or agriculture is required.
• Have a Diploma in Horticulture or relevant field.
• Understanding of and adherence to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling tools, machinery, or chemicals.
• Ability to work well in a team, follow instructions, and demonstrate punctuality and reliability, especially during busy harvest periods.
• Applicants must have the legal right to work in Australia, such as through citizenship, residency, or a valid work visa.
Salary Range: 65000 AUD to 85000 AUD plus Superannuation
