Our client is a steel fabrication business based in Dandenong South, Victoria that has been operating since 2008. The business fabricates the structural steel required for new buildings such as commercial warehouses, offices and schools. The company works with medium to large industrial, commercial and domestic projects in partnership with many small and large builders. Each of these builders has specific needs not only for their own high standards but also those of their end clients.
The Welder will play a pivotal role in the company's operations by ensuring that metal components are securely and accurately joined to create strong, durable structures and products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in welding and steel fabrication, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Interpreting Specifications and Blueprints: Reading and interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to understand the welding requirements and project details.
- Metal Preparation: Cutting, shaping, and fitting metal parts according to the project specifications. This involves measuring, marking, and preparing materials using tools like saws, grinders, and cutting torches.
- Welding and Joining Metal Parts: Using various welding techniques such as MIG, TIG, arc welding, and oxy-acetylene welding to join metal parts. This includes setting up and operating welding equipment.
- Inspection and Testing: Inspecting welded joints and structures for defects and compliance with specifications. Conducting tests using methods like X-rays, ultrasonic testing, and visual inspection to ensure the quality and integrity of the welds.
- Maintaining Welding Equipment: Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on welding equipment and tools to ensure they are in good working condition.
- Safety Compliance: Adhering to safety standards and regulations by wearing appropriate protective gear and following safety procedures to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Repair and Modification: Repairing and modifying existing metal structures by removing and replacing defective parts, welding new parts, and ensuring the modifications meet the required standards.
- Fabrication: Fabricating metal components and structures from raw materials by cutting, bending, and assembling them according to specifications.
- Collaboration: Working with other tradespeople, engineers, and project managers to ensure that welding tasks are integrated smoothly into the overall construction or manufacturing process.
- Documentation: Keeping accurate records of work performed, including welding procedures, inspection results, and materials used, to ensure traceability and compliance with standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of 2 years of welding experience.
