The Role
As a Motor Mechanic, it is essential that you have the passion to carry out mechanical servicing duties in an effective and timely manner. Your primary role is to carry out testing, diagnosing and troubleshooting major faults and overhauling engines of motor vehicles and parts such as transmissions, suspension, steering and brakes of a wide range of motor vehicle types.
The annual salary is set at $73,300 plus superannuation.
The Responsibilities
Some tasks may include
Test parts and diagnosing various systems and performing corrective repairs to ensure that they are working properly
Identify mechanical problems, often by using computerized diagnostic equipment
Follow checklists to ensure that all critical parts are examined
Test and lubricate the vehicle’s engine and other major components
Perform basic care and maintenance, including oil changes, tuneups, and tire rotations
Repair or replace worn parts, such as brake pads and wheel bearings
Dismantling and removing engine assemblies, transmissions, steering mechanisms and other components, and checking parts.
Use testing equipment to ensure that repairs and maintenance are effective
Explain to clients their automotive problems and the repairs done on their vehicles and suggest estimates
Performing various physical duties which can include, but are not limited to, bending, stooping, reaching, laying down, twisting, lifting and carrying various-sized and weighted objects.
Performing tune-ups, weld equipment and other metals, and maintaining files about their repair work.
Operating a variety of diagnostic instruments and a variety of hand, electric, and airdriven tools.
Repairing brake, engine, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, transmission, ignition, air, exhaust, axle, steering, and related systems.
Complying with the safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe and friendly working environment
Performing scheduled maintenance services, such as oil changes, lubrications and engine tune-ups, to achieve smoother running of vehicles and ensure compliance with pollution regulations
Test drive vehicles after repairs are complete to ensure mechanical soundness and to determine whether any other problems exist
The Requirements:
AQF Certificate III in the relevant field is required
At least 1.5 years of relevant experience in a commercial workshop setting
Must have at least 1.5 years’ experience working with Asian, Intercontinental and European car makes
At least 1.5 years of experience working with motor mechanical systems
Must have at least 1.5 years’ experience with oxy, electric and MIG welding techniques
Must know how to operate diagnostic equipment
Experience working with mechanical systems
Good with hand and power tools
The ability to work independently and as part of a team
Able to pass a drug and alcohol test
