About the Role

We currently have the opportunity for a motivated GPH/Deckhand to join our team here at Journey Beyond Cruise Sydney. This is a full-time position with an immediate start. You must have a GPH certificate of competence 1 in Marine Operations, or higher. In this role, you are primarily responsible for looking after the vessel, plus the safety and comfort of all guests on board while delivering high-quality service.

The ideal candidate will be someone with a positive "can-do" attitude, strong on-vessel experience, and a team player with excellent communication skills. They will also be willing to go above and beyond for our guests, crucial in achieving our goal of sharing special places and shaping lasting memories. Sound knowledge of the local area is a plus.

As a Deckhand and member of the Marine Operations crew, your daily duties include but are not limited to;

  • Provide high-quality customer service and experiences to guests on-board
  • All deck-hand shipboard duties like handling mooring lines, anchor, gangway. and assist in watch-keeping
  • Perform constant deck rounds
  • Assist guests with moving around vessel ensuring they are safe
  • Interact and engage with our guests to ensure they're having a great experience
  • Assist other team members while cruising if necessary (e.g. running food, washing dishes, etc.)
  • Stocking up the vessels bar in between cruises
  • Perform tasks to follow safety procedures as per vessel SMS
  • Daily cleaning duties, including general vessel cleaning and housekeeping
  • Be the first responder in emergency situations

About You

To be successful in this role you will know your stuff, be an all-rounder with deckhand and hospitality experience, and particularly passionate about guest experiences. You will have an energy that's dynamic and you have fun when you work. Who you are is important to us – we want you to be yourself, genuine, personable and be able to demonstrate your hospitality skills to the highest standards.

  • Previous experience as a Deckhand, within the Hospitality industry is a plus
  • General Purpose Hand Certificate 1 in Marine Operations or higher (essential)
  • NSW Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) Competency Card (essential)
  • Provide First Aid & CPR (essential)
  • Strong personal presentation skills and team player
  • Sound swimming skills and physical fitness
  • Be highly self-motivated, with great energy and the ability to multi-task
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, self-motivated and proactive
  • The flexibility to work varied hours including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Have the necessary working entitlements to work in Australia
  • Must not be affected by sea sickness

A pre-employment medical and National Police Check may be required as part of this recruitment process.
