Background
Bankstown Veterinary Hospital was established in 1948 by Dr John Buckingham, a Sydney University graduate. The area became a growth region thanks to Bankstown Airport which began its' life as an air force base. Dr Buckingham and his family owned much of the land where the current hospital is located and made Marshall Street both their home and a place to build the hospital. The grounds included a stable, with horses and farm animals part of the clientele.
In 2013 Dr Butcher, having been retired for several years and Dr Myers sold the Hospital to Dr Bryant Nguyen. Bryant brings with him a wealth of knowledge and 16 years of experience as a Veterinarian in the Southern Sydney region. Bryant practised at Croydon Park Veterinary Clinic for 10 years and before that at the Caringbah / Miranda / Connels Point multi-clinic practice as well as Allison Crescent Veterinary Hospital Menai where he started.
Daily tasks include:
• Undertake daily treatments, routines and nursing care of patients as per policy and procedure as directed &/or as advised by duty veterinarian.
• Document patient vital signs and observe condition of patients as per policy and procedure/as directed.
• Interpret patient vital signs and communicate any changes to duty veterinarian to ensure update of treatment plan occurs in a timely manner.
• Maintain a high level of hygiene in kennel/cattery, taking into account isolation procedures and appropriate disinfection usage.
• Ensure routine packs and surgical equipment are selected, prepared and sterilised for specific procedures as per policy and procedure/as directed and duty veterinarian requirements.
• Ensure operating table and environs are cleaned and disinfected in line with policy and procedure/as directed pre and post operatively.
• Ensure animal intakes and pre-operative procedures are carried out as instructed and as per policy and procedure/as directed.
• Ensure nursing staff comply with Practice policy.
• Ensure rostering of nursing shifts is fair and well in advance.
• Implement and organise training for veterinary nurses in line with practice role descriptions, practice
needs and that training incorporates use of practice policies and procedures.
• Undertake preparation of animals for specific procedures according to policy and procedure/as directed and as instructed.
• Ensure all equipment is cleaned and maintained in line with policy and procedure/as directed.
• Demonstrate knowledge of usage of various laboratory tests.
Requirements:
1) Bachelor's degree in a relevant area (Veterinary), or equivalent.
2) Minimum 1 year of work experience as a Veterinary Nurse
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing tasks at Bankstown Veterinary Hospital and Boundary Road Veterinary Hospital, as per the assigned roster.
Annual salary: $73,150 - $80,000 + superannuation (38 hours of work per week)
