As a Community Development Officer your role ensures that Council programs, services and projects are inclusive and accessible, adhering to Council’s Social Justice Charter. Support the community and partners to develop and implement community-based projects and initiatives that respond to social justice priorities within the municipality
What you’ll be doing:
- Lead the delivery of Community Development programming through effective project management, and evaluation.
- Implement and/or execute, actions under the Council Plan, Social Justice Charter, other key strategies and community engagement initiatives.
- Facilitate the progress of community capacity building projects and initiatives that enhance wellbeing, improve safety, celebrate diversity, inclusion and strengthen community and social cohesion.
- Identify community needs and factors that will influence community planning through examination of social research, community aspirations, demographic and social data, changing models of service provision and new policy directions.
- Liaise and collaborate with Council departments, the community and other stakeholders.
- Prepare and provide high quality reports pertaining to community development, capacity building and social inclusion projects and initiatives.
- Provide timely advice to the Team Leader Community Development regarding community wellbeing indicators and emerging trends and issues pertinent to the development of Council policies, plans and strategies.
- Apply community development principles in the execution of all responsibilities and duties both with internal and external interest groups. Ensure appropriate and adequate consultation with key stakeholders to resource capacity building activities in relation to community groups and community activity.
The skills and experience you’ll bring to the role:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Social Sciences, Community Development or a related field, with a focus on community development and some experience, or lesser formal qualifications with substantial experience.
- Demonstrated experience in engaging multiple stakeholders, enhancing public participation and building community capacity through a variety of community development processes, practices and activities.
- Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities and understanding of cultural competency, social inclusion, diversity, inclusion and social justice principals.
- Proven facilitation, presentation, liaison and influencing skills with residents, community groups, other Council departments and organisations.
- Demonstrated experience in identifying funding opportunities, preparation of funding submissions and ability to manage contracts
- Ability to plan, implement, report on and evaluate projects, providing sound and timely advice, information and data on issues relating to diverse and/or disadvantaged communities.
- Ability to influence and drive internal and external structural change to support vulnerable communities to participate in community and work life.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills including ability to prepare correspondence, reports, financial reports and acquittals.
- Current Driver's licence and Working with Children Check.
