The Role
This is a full-time basis with an annual salary set between $65,000 to $80,000 plus superannuation.
Responsibilities
Accompanying clients during daily activities: involves being a supportive presence, engaging in tasks and outings, and ensuring elderly individuals feel included and active in their daily lives.
Assisting with mobility and safe movement: includes providing guidance, helping navigate living spaces, and facilitating prescribed exercises to enhance physical well-being and independence.
Meal planning and preparation: encompasses considering dietary preferences, restrictions, and nutritional needs, followed by preparing balanced and appealing meals to promote overall health and satisfaction.
Arranging and facilitating social activities: entails organising events, outings, and gatherings to foster social interaction, mental stimulation, and emotional well-being among clients, ensuring they maintain connections and enjoy a fulfilling social life.
Domestic assistance tasks (including cleaning and tidying): requires attention to detail, from vacuuming to laundry, to create a clean and comfortable living environment where clients can thrive.
Assisting with personal hygiene and dressing: involves providing respectful help with bathing, grooming, and dressing, ensuring clients feel comfortable, dignified, and confident in their appearance.
Providing emotional support and companionship: means being a source of comfort, a listening ear, and a friendly presence, fostering a warm and trusting relationship where clients can express their thoughts, feelings, and concerns.
Running errands and shopping with or for clients: includes efficiently managing grocery shopping, pharmacy visits, and essential errands, ensuring clients have everything they need for their daily lives and well-being.
Administering medications (if required): involves the careful dispensing of prescribed medications, maintaining records, and ensuring clients follow medication schedules to manage their health conditions effectively.
Monitoring and documenting client health: includes observing and assessing physical and mental well-being, documenting changes or concerns, and communicating with healthcare professionals to ensure clients receive appropriate care.
Assisting with physical therapy exercises: requires understanding prescribed routines to guide clients, tracking progress, and offering encouragement to improve their strength, mobility, and physical health.
Responding to emergencies and providing first aid: involves staying alert and addressing unexpected health crises or accidents, applying first aid techniques, and seeking medical assistance when necessary to ensure clients' safety.
Maintaining a safe and comfortable living environment: means evaluating and addressing safety hazards, organising the living space to meet specific needs, and promoting an environment where clients feel secure, content, and at ease.
Requirements
In order to be shortlisted for this position, the right candidate needs to have:
Relevant qualification in aged care – at least a Certificate III level qualification
A minimum of 1 year of relevant experience
At least 1 year experience operating various assistive technologies and devices, such as mobility aids (wheelchairs, walkers), communication aids (speech-generating devices), and environmental control systems
Certification or training in caregiving, first aid, and CPR
Clear criminal background check
Current driver licence (if providing client transport)
Suitable physical fitness for lifting and transferring clients
Dependability and punctuality
Effective communication skills with clients, families, and healthcare professionals
Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse backgrounds
Documentation skills for keeping client care records
