Are you interested in a career in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring?
Neurophysiology Services Australia (NSA) is the largest and most progressive clinical neuroscience company in Australia and New Zealand specialising in intraoperative neurophysiological monitoring (IONM). We are looking to recruit experienced Neurophysiology Scientists to add to our highly experienced international team.
Minimum Qualifications:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in science, biomedical science or health sciences, preferably with a major relating to physiology, cognitive neuroscience or neurophysiology is required for this role.
Position Description:
Neurological injury is one of the most feared complications of surgery. IONM encompasses a series of intraoperative tests to give real time feedback to the surgeon to minimise post-operative neurological deficits. Scientists employed by NSA are routinely monitoring for instrumented and non-instrumented spine, spinal tumours, brainstem tumours, micro vascular decompressions, and brain-mapping in awake and asleep brain surgery. The Neurophysiology Scientist interprets clinical data in real time to assist with surgical decision making, working closely with Surgeons, Anaesthetists, and other operating room staff.
Experience:
Clinical neurophysiology or previous intra-operative neurological experience is highly desired. However, candidates without a minimum of two years’ experience in clinical neurophysiology and who are willing to commence as trainees and undergo theoretical and practical training for intraoperative neurophysiology are also encouraged to apply. Comprehensive knowledge of evoked potentials and familiarity with electromyography, nerve conduction studies and electroencephalography is desired.
Ideal personal characteristics:
The role is conducted independently in a fast-paced environment, thereby requiring excellent communication and time management skills, in addition to confidence in trouble-shooting and lateral thinking. A team-oriented attitude is paramount as the role entails interacting with a variety of health professionals. With early morning surgery lists, good time management and organisational skills are also required plus a love of coffee!
The role provides ongoing training and education and requires all Scientists to keep current with relevant literature; therefore, a strong desire to learn independently is essential.
Given the geographic scope of our service provision throughout Australia and New Zealand, scheduling flexibility is necessary to accommodate travel requirements.
The successful applicants will:
1. Have a valid Driver’s Licence and own vehicle.
2. Be willing to work outside of business hours and participate in the on-call roster.
3. Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
4. Be provided with extensive training in IONM prior to commencing unsupervised IONM.
Experienced Scientists salaries from $75,000 - $85,000 pa plus super
