Logistics and Shipping Lead

What you will be responsible for:

  • Lead and manage 3 shipping team members, assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and ensure targets are met
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, training and performance feedback to team members
  • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment, encouraging teamwork and continuous improvement
  • Co-ordinate and oversee all logistics and shipping activities including reporting
  • Ensure timely and accurate despatch of products, and communicating effectively where required due to delays
  • Analyse logistics and shipping processes to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, cost reduction, and service quality.
  • Develop and implement contingency plans to address unexpected challenges to minimize impact on Vulcan’s operations
  • Monitor key performance indicators such as shipping and documentation accuracy, and lead times, identifying potential risks and possible solutions
  • Ensure supplier evaluations are complete
  • Track and analyse data related to logistics and shipping operations, providing reports on performance, costs and opportunities for improvement.

  • Strong leadership and team management skills
  • Experience in logistics/shipping and/or supply chain
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments and Divisions
  • Out of the box thinker with the ability to problem solve
  • Attention to detail
  • Customer Focused
  • Computer literacy, proficiency with MS Office, especially Outlook and Excel
  • Highly developed time management, organisational and numerical skills
  • Ability to set priorities, monitor workflow and improve efficiency of work practices
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills  
  • An ability to build rapport with suppliers and maintain relationships
